and that's only cuz so many of them get fired for not noticing the dump bucket up in the air, before they hit an over pass....
otherwise, there would be no job openings for PROFESSIONAL dump drivers.
Too stale to train

This company hires drivers with a gap in driving, new cdl school grads, refresher courses.
Has their own cdl school and pays hourly pay while in school. -
You can imagine how infuriated everyone is with Skanska, the bridge contractor. The main link between our peninsula and Pensacola--the under construction Three Mile Bridge--is out of service for at least two months. Barge broke it. I took a two lane private toll bridge up to the interstate. It was closed for a couple of days because a barge hit it. It took an hour to go 11 miles. Going back south the same way, traffic was backed up onto I-10 a quarter mile from the exit ramp. Dumb four-wheelers stopped in the right hand lane instead of on the shoulder. Good place for a fiery rear-end collision. I decided to go the really long way around.
So, a 20-30 minute drive to my next job site has now turned into a 60-90 minute drive, depending on traffic.
Our local mega-personal injury lawyers have already filed law suits, both individual and class action, the latter of the two meaning we'll each get $0.75 while the lawyers get $100 million.Chinatown Thanks this. -
All the ads I've seen for dump truck drivers require experience. I was told by two different drivers that the going rate in my area is $15/hr. I guess that would work out the same as OTR if they put in 70 hours/week. But if they only work 40 hours/week, then there are easier ways to make $600, namely, installing a couple of bathroom vanities, which might take a morning to do. Dang, I need to get this truck driving bug out of my system. Maybe I can let Western Express get it out of my system for me?

I am retired, but I can get into any truck I have and drive it, the skills will come back quickly so ... this is also the same for many ... you should just take anything and drive.TravR1 Thanks this. -
I started with Maverick in July 2014. I got my CDL in January 2012. I did not drive commercially at all until I started with Maverick. It has not been anywhere near too long for you. Best wishes in whatever you do!
