(I believe this to be correct) But your right it works really well for me.

Its a Beta blocker. It interrupts the message sent by the injury to the brain.

Uhhh, ibuprofen is a NSAID, not a betablocker.

There is a product called Red Cross. You dip the little cotton ball in the solution.
With the tweezers it comes with.

Let me tell you what, too much and you got your whole mouth numb and on fire. A little goes along way. Got it at a CVS drug store.

Saltwater will help in a pinch. Only I tend to forget and come back later and try to drink the whole glass. ha

Two of my teeth had broken and missing fillings. I tried this product -Temparin-Max - but that is only a temporary filling.... Was hoping to wait till March to go to a dentist abroad. But started to have pain... Tried Oral gel or Ambesol... or something like that, but that didn't work. Finally went to a dentist during my "hometime" here, he started a root canal, it was $ 500.00. :biggrin_25521: He prescribed Vicodin... :biggrin_2556: I didn't know what that was... I told him can't take anything that will make me drowsy... But he didn't see any problem in prescribing me Vicodin...
Fortunatelly got Penicillin VK 500 mg at pharmacy and went back on the road. A week later pain came back with revenge and the Penicillin didn't work at all....
Had to park truck, take cab and go to a hospital for an antibiotic prescription and spent $ 300.00 for that :biggrin_25510:
I don't have medical or dental plan cause I don't want it. Got Amocilin 875 mg (something like that). Pain was persistent even after a week taking it.
Was at one of my co. terminal for almost 24 hrs, so bobtailed to another dentist nearby and got an X-ray just to see what was going on. They told me needed to finish root canal and put a crown on top. But I had no time and I don't want a crown and will not pay the fortune they charge here.
Kept taking the antibiotic and two weeks later took "hometime" again and went back to the first dentist and for $ 400.00 he finished root canal, put some filling on top and gave me another antibiotic which I have almost finished taking but I think pain will come back.... :biggrin_25510:
If that happens, will have to get more antibiotic... will take "hometime" in middle of Sept. and go to another dentist...
I get really PO with dentists in this country, haven't had any good experience with them so far. :biggrin_25510:
Planning on traveling abroad in March and have a real good dental treatment for 10 times less money than here in America. The money I've already spent with this would be enough to pay for my air ticket.

You know Rocks, for the money you've already spent, and will still spend to have it done out of country, you could have probably had it all done, and done right, the first time to the dentist.

Well... I had intended to do the whole treatment abroad next March... dental treatment in the country where I was born is 10 times or more cheaper than in America and they do a much better job than here.

It's sooo cheap and good that last year travel agencies in that country were offering dental tour packages.... one could have all their dental done and tour at the same time for less than only the dental here. Travel agencies would take care of everything, dental clinic, schedulling, etc. :yes2557:

That business was a success for a while.... until US government told them to stop it cause it was damaging businesses here. :biggrin_25516:

I heard this from a friend of mine who lives there.

Anyway, I must visit my dad abroad, so will take the time and have all my dental there. I have a lot of dental to be done but definitely don't like the way dental is done in this country and the price is totally absurd!!! :biggrin_2552: Maybe will be going sooner than I expected.

Sorry for changing the subject a little....

I broke a tooth last month and the filling fell out. I called my doctor at home and he called a script of Loritab? into Walmart. Boy they helped. I made it to the dentist two days later at the Walcott TA. My jaw bone was infected by then and my face swollen. He put me on antibiotics and Vicoden. Dang that stuff is strong but knocks out the pain. My company shut me down.
Finally it was $260 to get it pulled or $900 for a root canal. I took the cheapy route.

That dentist is pretty good for what I was expecting at a truck stop. But he is expensive.

Warning, the Vicoden will kill the pain, but you feel like you are dying coming off of them for 2-3 days. They are too strong for me.

An old grandmothers remedy that works great that many don't know.
You can take ground red cayenne pepper available at any grocery store. Use your finger or a QTip. Wet it and dip it in the pepper and rub it on the cavity area.

It doesn't hurt and the pain goes away and then you'll start feeling the nerve throb for about 5 minutes. What it does is kill the nerve. You'll just feel your heartbeat there for a few minutes. If your desperate and plan on pulling the tooth, this is the cheapest, easiest way to kill the pain. It is more effective if the nerve is exposed.

next time you are in an emergency like this look for an Aspen Dental. They are a nationwide chain and a lot of them are in shopping centers with big, truck friendly parking lots. I got stuck in a similar situation in Syracuse, Ny and that's where I went. They gave me the antibiotics I needed and some prescription-strength ibuprofen (you are allowed to drive on that) to help me last until I got home to see my regular dentist. That's what you need. If you go to your regular dentist with your face swollen up, he's not going to work on you until the infection is gone. They have Aspen Dental offices all over the east and the midwest.

A dentist once told me, after extracting two of my teeth, that 800mg of Tylenol and 1000mg of ibuprofen alternating every 2 hours between the two will introduce the same amount of pain reliever as any prescription pain medicine normally prescribed for tooth pain.

that's probably a good idea. The main thing you want when you have a toothache is the antibiotics. Most people have the cavity months before the toothache and don't know it. It's the infection that causes the pain. What's ridiculous is here in the USA we have to have a prescription to buy penicillin. You can get it over the counter just about every where else. Heck, you can buy it online from Canada.
