Les is right anything can go fast with enough room to run and the right gears, but for me pure horsepower wins. I would rather drag a heavy load up a hill with high horsepower than go tearing down the highway at 70+ mph.

the europeans don't comprehend the vast wide open spaces we have here. it's not like that in europe

I had my truck up to 100 this weekend but since I only had 6 tires on the rear I didnt' want to go any faster. my cummins will run 2500rpm or more if I shim the pump. i've got a 120mph speedo so I look forward to seeing how high I can get it

Well, there are wide open spaces in europe, but the police doesn't allow speeds over 80-90km/h (55mph). And there are tachographs, so everything is written...And the fuel is a lot more expensive (at least it was...)

they were starting to talk about lowering the speed limit back down to 55. thank god fuel prices went back down and that pretty much stoped that talk. that can add an extra day to a midwest to west coast trip.
there is places in western TX that are so empty they don't have speed limits. at least that's what the TX DPS officer I was talking to was telling me. I haven't seen them

Yes 888hp to the ground, full load, across I-40 in AZ between winslow and holbrook for those who care.

As far as being weak on the hills, not with the torque and hp im pushing. My truck is not geared that tall since most trucks now are 3.36 and taller and me with my 3.55s is not exactly all that tall.

3,36 with double over? Isn't that to tall? OK, I'm sure that yours 888hp would run just fine even with that, and taller, but in normal trucks(beetwen 450-550 hp)?

it depends on where you run. your truck needs to be setup for where you spend most your time. That would be fine for me running around flat TX with 70mph speedlimits even on the small state roads.
If you spend your whole day running through the rocky mountains then it would be too much.
Generally the trucks that run coast to coast or midwest to west coast will be set up with very long legs as there is allot more flat land then mountains

Living in the state where Lahood is from, there was an article in the paper where he is currently considering the move back to 55. Not dead yet.

Some in Ohio are thrying to raise the truck speed limit again. I really think that all speed limits need to be set a 55mph (cars and trucks). To many accidents are happening because of excess speed, people not paying attention, and improper training. The world is in such a hurry for no reason.
