I don't want to rain on your parade, but setting the speed near 60 will save you a ton of money at the end of the year. My truck is wide open and I see no reason to run that fast. Especially with the way people drive now a days. I enjoy to just cruise along and out pull all the fast trucks on the hills. Also I don't want to be mean, but if a 55mph speed limit is gonna put you under, you may want to look at what your rates are.
Top speed

There are alot of different ways to save money,65 or 70 may cost more for feul but if it allows you to deliver a load rather than having to wait till the next day.....time is money too.It is pretty sad if "the way people drive" is a valid arguement for a 55mph. limit. If they are that bad maybe they should be better trained or not be allowed to drive, why should society be brought down to the lowest common denominator.Think of how much money has been spent over the years making things "idiot proof" idiots will always lower the bar,it is just thier nature.JMO
Lilbit Thanks this. -
I agree with DD14, I am tired of living my life around idiots.

It's the "American way".

Good post, BTW. Driver training (translating into speed limits) being a prime example where Yurp does a much better job, IMHO. -
Can someone tell me what was power ratings on older V12 Detroits? Or post some linkv or something...

I watched my VHS tape, volume V, to answer your question. These tapes of ATHS members trucks is from Long Road Productions. Peter Grimm is interviewed and gives a ride-a-along. His 1970 Brockway is powered with a V12-71 that he refers to as a pair of V6 Siamese twins. The truck was originally owned by Bushka Lumber, Agawam, MA.
A conventional with a V12 can be identified by dual air cleaners, one on each side. The 434 hp engine weighs 3,300 lbs. Grimm's Brockway has a 13 speed overdrive and 38,000 lb rears on air ride. He added power steering. His Brockway is certified to pull doubles grossing 143,000 lbs. It will maintain 26 mph on 6-mile mountain, Mass Pike. -
Well I got a triple digit wonder....she says she can do 140 mph but someone has only had her to 100 mph before I suggested putting all 18 wheels back on the ground.
Guess we'll find out in March if you like the leadfoot is coming back on the truck....she's got me beat hands down.

Thanks. That's a lot of power for 70's...And how about newer versions? I saw one with 500kw on some internet ads, but i'm guessing that is some marine engine...
