Don't forget the I-44 corridor in spring and fall. Norman's mile o' cars has been taken out more than once, and Tanger Outlet in Stroud was reduced to so much mangled steel.
Maybe so, but I did run OTR down south out of Jacksonville FL and there where a lot of times we parked the truck.
I park as well. However, many times in the rural areas, there are many miles between towns and no pull offs.
as an FYI for everyone. The Red Cross and National Weather Service now say to STAY IN a vehicle if you are in one and keep your seat belt on while ducking to try and stay below window level. they say a ditch is basically a final option. personally.. even with the glass i'd feel safer in the car than getting out of it to try and find a ditch to lay in.
this year i was on my way to WA and was in ND.. on my driver side i watched this horrible looking storm kep brewing..i kept driving (seems i was going around it), nut the radio kept saying severe thunderstorm and poss hail.... and im watching saying, nooo theres more comin out of this!! experience from living in TX and seeing those storms brew up. i knew a tornado was coming. i kept driving and watching...about 4 hrs.... my student woke up and came up front. he was in awe. i hit the rain and winds for about 30 min. crazy. then hit the backside and you can see the pic of the dbl rainbow i got..stopped to fuel up and he took over driving and when i woke up i heard about the joplin tornado. that was the storm cell that it came out of.... i was in silence, then i got a pic sent to me froma frnd with the wreckage in the FJ there. amazing
This is what the Red Cross says. http://www.redcross.org/portal/site...Page=39fd0726d6312210VgnVCM10000089f0870aRCRD It doesn't give preference to either choice.
I try and listen to local am stations during tornado season. Had a few close calls last year but was lucky.1170 in tulsa is very good in any bad weather. You can pick it up from ok city almost to joplin.
