If you are operating in the GTA as local driver staying under 160 kms then how much total gross weight you can legally haul.

Check the sidewall of your tires for max load ratings. Add up all the tires max load ratings (tires must be filled with air). Check your truck's spec sheet for frame and axle load ratings. Your tires load ratings should meet or exceed your frame and axle load ratings. Finally check that you are covered under insurance for at least that amount plus 15%.

Despite the above the roads, tunnels, and bridges you travel upon have their own load limits which is governed by your national safety code, and by road signs before extremely vulnerable roads and bridges. If you do decide to cross that road or bridge anyway you would be putting lives in danger.

Your status as a local driver within 160KM has no bearing upon the physical limitations of your truck.

You're not suppose to avoid the scale just because you're a local driver and you're overweight.

If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be driving a truck. They should have taught you that in school, and at the very least, your company should know what they can legally haul on their equipment.

If not, they may not be a good company to work for.

39,500 kg on a tandem tractor pulling a tandem trailer on most major highways in Canada unless permitted for more or using a different combination.

    6000k steer
    17,000k drives
    17,000k Tandem trailer
    _______
40,000k total max weight, unless you are registered for less. Easy way to check is look at GVWR on your door, then check the registration in your permit book. (They should be the same)

You are allowed 5500KG on the steer tires, as far as I know, in most places. The very maximum you can safely put on a steer tire is embossed on the sidewall.

If you Google "Canada steer axle 6000 kg" you will find plenty of links for all provinces now allowing 6000 kg on the steer axle, so long as the tire and axle ratings are sufficient. Also must still be compliant with 100kg/cm of width rule.

Yep, I was routinely around 13,500 on my steers, but luckily my axle was rated for 13,700. But for them that wet their shorts if they're a little over, in Canada, a 10% allowance is given. So if you're 12,400 you're good, because your grace space is 13,200.

Basically that's because so many trucks now have a bull bumper, or they've got set forward axles.

Well if you move the fifth wheel one hole back the percentage of weight transferred to the steer axle is less, it will scale legal, save your steer tires and power steering box from excess wear and tear, and allow more weight for dead mosquitoes and other roadkill to hang from your moose bumper until wildlife can pick it off for breakfast.

    That's very true.

But I always got stuck with maxed tridems. 62,000 lbs in the box, with a reefer and fuel tank. So even loading light on the nose, I always had to move the bogies up 1 or 2 holes too close. I had about 50 lbs to play with on the drives. So I always had a few more on my steers rated for 13,700 lbs. I would usually scale at 102,300 lbs gvw.

Curse of having 700 hp, 2250 torque, 18 speed. Boss man always gave me the loads others would whine about. And my tare weight full of fuel was 23,380 lbs.
