Tow Truck Ripped Off My Bumper, who is at fault?

That front bumper comes off in minutes w/ only 4 bolts. It is designed that way for ease of service. Put it on the catwalk and all damage is avoided. These tow guys are always in a dang hurry. The damage to trucks from towing is endless……air bags, suspension parts, oil pans, taillights, mud flaps.

One of the worst was a day cab towed backwards. Ripped the whole upper air fairing off because is cupped the wind on the highway going backward.

 

This happened to @High Stepper once. He punched a hole in the door of the tow truck. He then grabbed the ankle of the tow truck driver and proceeded to give him an Indian burn until he agreed to pay for the damages. I believe the tow company mailed him a case of Mrs. Freshly’s frosted honey buns as an apology.

 

Oh man, gotta watch the guys that like honey buns.........

 

A 16 wide was running through Montgomery County, AL. A rookie cop got on the on ramp not paying attention and ran into the side of the load, totaling the squad car. He called his super. The supervisor comes out, writes the driver a ticket for failure to maintain control of his rig. The driver refuses to sign. What do you think happens next?

They always wanted to drop them in the shop on 4×4's and leave....I would ask them if it was on 4×4's when they picked it up.

You're right, some skip angry and just throw you in the klink.

 

We have damage waivers but we get them signed BEFORE we touch anything and only if we know that more damage is possible, like a fairing or something getting ripped off because it was already jack knifed or whatever. It is just to save our ### from some of these people that want us to pay for a scratch on their roof after they roll their #### and blame us. Unfortunately 90% of tow companies are a bit shady and you are going to have fun trying to get them to fix anything. We usually just eat the cost and fix it if we honestly messed it up, cheaper than our insurance premiums going up.

Because you can't fit under the bumper/oil pan/axle on most new trucks or at least not with enough clearance to go down the road without the suspension bouncing your (plastic) oil pan off the crossbar. It's what we call "double picking".

Usually if you lift with tow pins you don't need to set it on blocks, you can fork the axle while it is suspended with the winches, and reverse that when you drop it.

I always set the brakes and then go in/out with my wheellift to make sure they are dragging, if not they get wheel chocks.

Some shops are nice and have ramps/blocks for us to drop on that we can leave them on. Since half of them the mechanics can't even roll under the fairings on a creeper without jacking it up. Y'all ain't keeping my hard wood. lol
