What if the late load will cause a lane shutdown and each hour costs the manufacturing company $100000? Family is above everything, but still, your attitude towards business is off. The right thing to do in this kind of situation, is to ask broker to repower the load. TQL can easily find a truck to finish the load with your trailer.
I know exactly what you mean. But...if I had a choice between a semi-literate driver that I could depend on to get the job done and a well spoken driver who couldn't pour water out of a boot if the directions were printed on the heel I'd probably take the not-so-well-spoken guy.
Judging from reading this you're a company driver, so your issue should be with your company directly and their relationship with the load broker is none of your concern. You write a little informally so maybe I'm not following you, but if you contracted independently to carry the load you're bound by the contract you agreed. This broker has a bad reputation that it has certainly earned, but business is business and their attitude toward the load is pretty reasonable really. Sorry about your dad, I hope he didnt suffer and you get over this problem fast so you can grieve.
good thing your not a heart surgeon. Not saying there aren’t legitimate reasons but I personally wouldn’t call this one it. My dad would understand I have to complete my task before I can come back.
