    the road less travelled
    0
I have talked about this stop several times, Saturday evening on a shortcut road that is a STAA route, and they were looking for fatigued drivers, this was in MN. The road gets enough scrutiny that I avoid it on Monday morning return runs, but it is the quickest way from US63 just into MN to I -90 west .
I wasn't what they were looking for, having just been home for a few days and doing an out and back so I would be home the next morning.

I don't avoid scales as a rule, and haven't had anything checked other than weight at a coop in quite some time.

i am still trying to wrap my head around these two

calling the security? i wish i could get thru security, typically, the number is someone 's voicemail that NEVER answers

and why are you giving DOT your delivery date? that BOL is dead and not for anyone to see

when you get stopped, under a load,, you have to show the BOL of the load you are on. how can he ticket you for the delivery date? when that didnt happen?

I think he means for the POD for the last load he hauled, which still begs the question, "Dude, why are you giving them bills for something you already delivered"?

I take the POD and the relevant logs and stick them into an envelope and seal it......

They're interested in the current load, or load status, and the last 8 days of logs, of which you have the duplicates....

Everything else is, "in the mail".

If it's about revenue, then they're looking for documents without a real foundational reason....

"We just want to dig around and see if we can nit pick for some fines and whatnot....."

If it's about safety, then they'll be looking for bloodshot eyes, a tired, unkempt appearance, five o'clock shadow, inability to think and speak clearly......

In which case they'd have a reasonable cause to believe there might be some violations of the hours of duty.

Now, I've been through the process quite a few times, I run a legal logbook, I don't drive if I'm a danger to myself and others, and this includes illness, (funny, the EOBR can't really address that one, huh??... and dispatchers will always try to push the sick driver to deliver on time), so........

Is it REALLY about safety, or is it really all about something else???

Someone earlier hit the nail squarely on the head when they said, "follow the money".

Politics is all about creating an illusion, and there is politics all over this issue.

"Watch my lips, not my hands.... here, look up here at me while I'm talking to you, make eye contact with me while I explain the necessity of creating a safe environment and reducing traffic accidents..... pay no attention to my hands as they rummage through your pockets........they are not the droids you're looking for"

you dont have to "put it in the mail"

legally, just keep out of "plain sight"

except at a canadian crossing, i have never had any DOT in my truck, much less searching thru my garbage and whatnot

i have heard some have endured such treatment, mostly out west, from what i understand

east coast DOT usually have better things to do

but no law enforcement is allowed to search your personal belongings unless he has probable cause, and if you have any papers "in plain sight" (receipts, scale tickets, PODs) he may ask to look at them, (not even sure if they are cluttered on your dash if that is "plain sight")

just dont be some compliant to the requests of a cop, they are allowed to entrap you, but you dont have to fall for it

I work for a mega carrier. They have been "improving" their EOBRs. Now they can see how each driver is performing on the road, overall driving, highway average speed, acceleration, shifting, brake usage, high RPS, so on and so forth. Company says they want to save on fuel and other parts. So, they contracted a third part business to monitor each driver's driving habits. According to each driver's performance, they are "rewarded" with points and some kind of "credits"... I don't know what one can do with those credits because so far, I haven't had opportunity to visit the site and read it all. All I know is what guy from this other company told me, that I am the best in shifting (for now) and keeping RPMs low, but I could gain some more points by slowing down to 62 and 63 mph.... Well, this truck is governed at 65 mph. I do my best to obey the speed limit. But, with this elog, I would need to go faster not slower because elog already puts limitations on my time that I didn't have when I was on paper. It's not a matter of planning, I have always done a great job planning, always maximizing and optimizing my hrs to get as many miles as I can within the time I have . But Elog doesn't give me the same flexibility, specially when the unexpectable happens, like road delays, dock delays just as an example... and they want me to slow down even more??? :biggrin_25512: Well, it's their truck, so they can govern them at 63 or 62 mph if they want to.
