His explanation of driver benefits can be summed up in to words.

    I'm lazy.

    lol......

No, I don't think that's it. I think he saw the inevitability of it all and decided to give it a try before selling the truck and getting out.....

I hope the issue can be adjudicated and that the prevailing party will be the one who represents the trucker, and not the government agency who's attempting to mandate it.

But, sadly, the phrase "good luck with that" comes to mind.

Seriously, how hard is it to count to 24?

If it's that hard, get a small credit card calculator. I have one.

Too hard to draw a straight line? Go buy a subway gift card and after you use it, there's your straight edge. No more messy logs.

Can't remember what city your in? You got bigger issues than a log book.

Can't finalize a log in less than 2 minutes when you get home? Your priorities are not to your job. It's to getting out of the truck.

Al of those amount to nothing but lazy. Every other entry is either done by typing in you load data, fuel stop, etc or writing it on paper.

There is some variation on what is allowed, I have even had that with paper logs, despite learning from some very knowledgeable people, there is always a difference of opinion on what is allowed and what is in the regulations, the e-logs would greatly increase the amount of information available, and make it easier to get at.

I am an observer, I see the forest and the trees, and what I'm seeing coming to pass with this is disturbing.

At present, at my company, we have no tracking other than reporting in except when we leave and when we get back, and I enjoy being responsible for getting the job done without the scrutiny and second guessing.

Having more flexibility would make anything easier for me to use, but it seems to me that the powers that be are intending to remove almost all flexibilty.

And further, anything the ECM reads is also in the box, so topping 80 mph will be there to see, also including how many minutes you are over a certain speed. I have been around them, they weren't being used for enforcing anything by my company, but I could see from the information available on the Peoplenet how these records could be used. They were prone to malfunction on some information collected and I don't have much faith in them working correctly no matter what.

I say dream on, if you think the information collected will never be used if it is available.

Whew! Read the whole post. Quite a few opinions. Cowpie has some good points for those not used to them. Trees... don't ever mention this again in a forum. This hasn't been part of the regulations but sure as @$#% someone will see it and include it.

We ran Qualcomms. It made our life simpler and allowed us to track our assets. It made it easier for the drivers most of the time. Yes, we had some of those instances people on here grip about but being small, we could manage it. Driver 2 hours from home and running out of hours because of unforeseen delays, use the 16 hour exemption. Driver forgot to change status to off duty, no problem, correct it. In a small company that is using EOBRs to make sure they are complaint, office and drivers working together make it worth while. In a big company, it might not be the same. We used them for the DVIR's, scanning and printing. Our drivers literally did NO paperwork. We allowed off-duty driving for personal conveyance and when they were moving around truck stops or receiving docks from one parking spot to another, they used off-duty driving. And yes, when they could give a crap about fuel mileage because they weren't paying for it, we were able to see that and take corrective action.

Probably the worst aspect however was if I was running local runs on the weekend when a driver was off, I had to abide by the OTR HOS rules because we couldn't switch the Qualcomms to local rules.

But for those of you who want to decide for yourselves, go to the classified section and buy one of the Qualcomms I have listed for sale and try it and see what you think. You'll get firsthand knowledge of whether or not you really are for or against them. More importantly, I'll have sold them instead of using them for paperweights.

How does the prevailing party know what the people want ? I get notifications every tme there is a new comment posted on the FMCSA requestion for comments on EOBR's . They haven't had 50 comments yet .EOBR's were not mandated by FMCSA . They were mandated by Congress in the Highway Bill . Congress represents the people with the money - ATA .As for the general registered voters , most nontrucker voters would approve of EOBR's .Speed limiters are next . A request for comments on speed limiters resulted in overwhelming support for them .

That's it in a nutshell. EOBRs are brought to us by the carriers, who NEED to milk EVERY driving hour they can out of their drivers.

The bottom line is essentially; if you do not want this regulation than there is one thing and one thing only that is going to prevent it...STRIKE, MARCH ON WASHINGTON, GET THEIR ATTENTION, CHANGE TO OUTCOME TO A MORE FAVORABLE ONE!!!! There are an aweful lot of drivers out there that if they were to stand and fight together than they could make a difference. No I do not propose a union but instead a unified front against what appears to be a continued assault on the truckers. It is everyones choice of course but just sitting back and griping won't end it but I can safely say if every trucker took a stand than the government would have to listen. Just my .02 cents which ain't worth a hoot alone!
