Not really . Personal conveyance is also allowed on paper logs off duty and there is no line 5 on the e-logs we have
Thank God i am moving towards ''part time'' hobby trucker..I feel sorry for any ''newbie'' getting into trucking. They don't have a chance with all this coming down the pike.
I've said it here, I prefer paperlogs. However, my company is transitioning over to EOBR now because of the idiot log violators in our company who have put the company under the spotlight of the DOT. Stupid basic violations too like form and manner, not having last 7 days of logs present, etc. I ran with these EOBR for a couple years and it really never affected my productivity. I've been using one where I am now and it hasn't been a big deal. We have a three mile radius before the thing kicks on, however, we can also use a personal conveyance mode. I just hope the same idiot log violators in our company don't abuse the personal conveyance mode so that it gets taken away.
Had to deal with this during my stint at Ryder. Went to Driving after half a mile or 15 mph...BUT it was 3/4 mile from the loaded lot to guardshack and yard speed limit was 15. A bunch of us would not log into the Peoplenet until we'd finished at the guardshack, to avoid wasting time on the 14 hour clock. Some others developed habits of unplugging the Peoplenet's GPS wire, or putting a tin cup over its antenna, or unplugging the truck's speedo sensor. One of the more creative guys made a little dish out of brass screen, and would randomly place it over the antenna for random amounts of time, to insert communication failures into his Peoplenet's event log. I think they replaced his antenna set a few times trying to nail that one down. Bottom line, if it's a computer and gets input from somewhere, it can be tinkered with. Inputs can be manipulated, as can the device's ability to transmit. I predict a grey-market trade in hacked EOBR's or hardware methods to tamper with the data they are collecting.
Lol, won't that be something, we will be pm'ing the likes of Mr. Haney to flash our eobrs with a file so we can manipulate them.
If a newbie start out with eobr's. How is it going to hurt them? EOBR'S will be the only thing they know, it will be much easier for them. No bad habits lol. In the military some of the best shooters are the ones that never fired a gun. No bad habits... just saying
Oh...My...Gawd... The day that they actually suggest that we (drivers) have a chip implanted in our body is actually drawing near, isn't it? Sure, Uncle Sam, you can implant a chip in me the same day you confiscate my guns...good luck with that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
