It happens. Hasn't happened to me...yet. If I run out of hours on the EOBR, I plan to just note that I had to drive to a "safe & secure" location with restroom facilities. My compliance department can deal with it if it ever becomes an issue.
The EOBR is a rigid time keeper, as a driver you have no way of knowing whether or not there will be parking when your 14 hr clock chimes.... Unless you have a crystal ball..... so, it's a gamble.... and a mad scramble to find a place to park while you take your mandatory break.... do we all wear the same size shoes?? The one size fits all approach in the HOS regulations is silly.... Is it a safety issue?? Really??? Or is it a revenue issue??? Think about it.... The TA already has. You can call and reserve your designated parking spot, for a fee... Question? Are there more trucks than truck parking spots? Supply and demand.... Let's say I own a truck stop... "sure, you can reserve a spot, and I'll only charge you whatever the market will bear for this... we'll negotiate a rate, right now I'm entertaining offers of $50.00 for ten hours..."
Revisionist history driver, revisionist history...... why do you think those loose leaf logs are so popular, anyway??
On a paper log everything is logged in 15 minute increments. If you are under 8 minutes on the graph, you are technically not required to show a duty status change. On an EOBR, everything is tracked on a per second basis. Then again, you probably already knew that.
I am sure it will if ''everyone'' is on the E-LOGS.There will come a time when 80% drivers will have to shut down at the same time.I just hope i am home when this happens..
I can't wait until the E-LOGS are mandated and the ''new'' HOS RULES go in affect.......Talk about a china man's fire drill..
That's why in my opinion the Feds have not done an adequate job in dealing with shippers and receivers in the whole scheme of the hours of service regs. The punitive consequences lay solely on the driver and now to some degree on the trucking companies themselves. However, as usual, the driver gets the ultimate shaft in this equation.
This is because it is not about ''us''.It is all about Government Control.Even if it does not make any sence.. CONTROL CONTROL CONTROL CONTROL...
