Well, the nanny state crowd thinks that we are safer and more efficient when they tell us when we can drive and when we can't...

i peddle furniture mostly small stores so parking in front on main or whatever street is not practical i do anywhere between 10-15 stops a day.i know how to log and shave time, point is i dont live in truck like so many out here nor do i want to.i go out than load back home,i dont have a fridge, microwave,tv computer or anything else like that.i love trucking just dont want be in it 24/7 like so many out here.so e-logs WILL cut down on home time and in effect make less money.i have been at this over 34 years i know when to sleep when to run.im not a cookie cutter driver.take 20 stops up east coast starting near city go up thru conn up thru i-95 to mass in day and half, get empty bout noon drive hour or two to load, head home,be home next am del,get another load do it again, like i said over 34 years doing this safely,e-logs will cost me

@ snowblind, so if you start at 5 am or whatever, you have 14 hours. you can't stop at 7 pm and start again at 5 am, get the rest of your stops off, reload and get back home by 7 pm ?
Do your customers even take delivery between 7 pm and 5 am ?mje Thanks this. -
yes you did.

Until they get on shippers and receivers, mandatory EOBRs are just going to screw the driver over.
I showed up for my appointment at Frito Lays in San Antonio the other day. My appt was 11 am. Got there about 1030. I didn't start unloading until noon. Got unloaded by 1:15 but then waited an hour for anyone to bring my my paperwork, so I could get on the road. That's a waste of over two hours, simply because they could do it. Nothing I can do about it...if I get on them, then they just take longer.
With a paper log, at the end of the day, I can always fudge my hours a bit to make up for their lack of respect for my job. On EOBRs I'd be screwed out of the hours toward my 14 hour clock. It didn't matter that much that day, simply cause I had a long bounce home for a doctor appointment the following day. But if I'd been on a tight schedule to get washed out and make an appointment to load somewhere, it could have just steam rolled on me.
It's not right that we are so regulated and watched but no one seems to give a rat's ### about what we have to deal with day in and day out. I don't feel a bit bad when I have to fudge my log to allow me to get my job done because I sat for hours at a shipper or a customer. It may be "falsifying" my log but I guess I don't look at it that way. I don't make up stories or write my log like a fairy tale. And I pretty much get perfect log bonuses every month and haven't failed a Level 3 or 2 inspection yet.....knock on wood....
But for those who seem to think that EOBR's are a good thing.....I completely disagree. I know too many drivers that are on them. I'm not impressed. They don't make a driver any safer. Just because you have a computerized baby sitter with you doesn't make you a safe driver.snowblind, volvodriver01, mikec265 and 2 others Thank this. -
but not to worry i have cut back already one trip a week bout 1800 miles i clear 2200-2400 after expenses, like i told my gf if i cant live on that i need to cut back spending, just means getting home later,or i could be like the ignorant fool who told me with some pride im on my 34 reset so i say you get paid to sit why no he says oh you get motel why no again, yea bring more stupid rules for the people out there trying to be truck drivers....trying

I want to chime in on this one. It totally blows my mind that in a country started a group of people telling their leaders to go fly a kite (T/R rules state I can't say what I really want to here. It might hurt someone's feelings) That these company executives won't stand up and tell this government to stick these regulations up their out hole. Yes their is someone currently doing this in regards to Obummercare(look up Hobby Lobby). Instead we have a hard working businessman starting yet another tread on these EOBR's. I am a company driver who has been doing this for nearly ten years now. The company I work for has stated we will go to them when it becomes law. My problem isn't necessarily money, I get by. My problem is I am not careing about stopping thirty minutes away from home due to being "OUT OF HOURS." I really wish we had more men and women with enough balls to take a stand for once. At what point do we say enough is enough? When is it going to be to late?
Rocks, mje, volvodriver01 and 4 others Thank this. -
I guess what I'm trying to express here is that I think that under normal circumstances you really shouldn't be up against the clock that often. The few times that you are there are options to free up a few hours here and there. pack a lunch, try to turn your stops into 2's, 8's, and 10's, etc... the idea that you have to work 7-5 with an EOBR is because so many don't understand the HOS rules, punch on in the morning and wait for the clock to run out. you can free up a little time here and there with it.mje Thanks this.
