I've been offered those from up here to right down by you. Didn't really talk much bc I'm not willing to go that far... N zero chance of somebody else driving my truck, much less with the expectation that I'd be sleeping during that period lol
. Wants it there <23 hours from departure time from shipping plant.

Sounds like other than that otr team open deck would be a lot of staring at your co driver waiting on something worthwhile to pop up though...

Ya they run from here to up there and back. If you are looking at the ones im thinking of, you take rebuilt engines up and bring ones scheduled to be rebuilt back down. Normal scheduled maintenance swap outs normally pay 2.50ish a mile (after my carriers cut) but the emergency runs pay far far better. When a 747 is sitting on a run way with a bad engine it costs a ton of money so they open up the check book to get a new one their asap.

Unfortunately the only one i trust to drive while i sleep was my dad, so i don't get those long runs. But the short ones that don't require a team pay pretty darn good also. A grand after expenses and make it home for dinner is a good day.

I only get offered last minute stuff from them, whether emergency or just nobody else has coverage on scheduled loads. I only take local moves though.
My guy told me he gets moves back n forth from 2 plants down there sometimes: 12 miles something like that.

He did say usually the team guys are sitting down there though and that's why they sometimes have issues covering them from up here in those situations.

Yep. Elog or paper you can be productive if you just have some work ethic. Not saying a guy can't stop to take a leak and eat. But some of these guys gotta stop every 50 miles. They really waste a lot of time in the day.

Yep. I do a LOT of those 12 mile runs. And quite a few of intra plant moves. You don't even get back out on the road, just run it from one building to another. Unfortunately there just isn't enough of them to depend on them to keep me busy. I spent 9 months ruining that type of stuff, and while they paid fantastic, 1 or 2 fantastic loads a week just doesn't cut it. It kept the bills paid but i wasnt able to put anything back. So i finally bit the bullet and left florida a week ago.

I'm not drinking the "gotta make 4000 miles a week" koolaid. But I've learned its daily average mph that gets you down the road. You're right keep the door shut. I try for 3-5 hours, break, 3-5 etc. All those little stops add up

Yeah. Pays good but isn't enough of them to make a living at.

I stop for a few minutes to stretch my legs every 200 miles or so when I'm on a longer run. But most of the stuff i do is either across town, or 350/400 miles max.

This is why percentage beats mileage.

I don't care if the load goes 200 or 2000 miles. As long as the money is in it I'll run. Doing more than 2000-2500 a week is rare for me.

When I worked for Maverick they got me in by offering 50CPM up front for hauling glass. 50CPM sounds great until you start getting sub 1K mile weeks. Then it's not so good anymore.
