    There are some exceptions if you are from out of state and only run limited mileage there. I don't know the exact details off the top of my head. I've never been to CA in a non CARB legal truck so I never bothered to learn that stuff.

    I've personally never seen a retrofit kit and highly doubt it would be worth doing just to run CA.

    To answer the retrofit question - you could have complied by installing a DPF. There is a second set of refs coming and those retrofit trucks will be non-compliant , 2023 maybe?

    As far as the weight tables go, they assume a California legal configuration (including an equipment inspection report when required) and are color coded for type of road. Each color corresponds to axle weights allowed based on spacing and bridge distances. Purple weight is the absolute max allowed and is typical for most interstates but certainly not all. Next would be green then orange (very limited) and then Red is no overweight allowed.

    I just had to do a 100 mile detour on my way to the north side of Sacramento because of permanent Orange and Red restrictions south of there. So all the way into the Bay Area then east and north through woodland then back to Sacramento.

    I was just thinking about the last time we were out in California when, all of the sudden, I remembered long stretches on one of the highways that restricted tractor-trailers to a specific lane. Do they still have those lanes on their big roads, @Rontonio ?

    By the way, I'm getting old, so I only remember the road as being multi-lane, so I have to assume that it was an interstate.

    Thanks again to @Razororange for his thoughts on running in California.

    Does anyone on the board know of any reason (or reasons) to avoid buying a used tractor from a seller in California? If so, I'd really appreciate whatever specifics you would care to add to the thread.

    Generally, you'd have to get it back to mass. And it's that much further to go look at. If it's a good truck n good person doing the selling it would be worth it.
