My company as a whole crosses the border several times a week. We've got as entire office dedicated to the regs, I just haven't spoken with them yet because I was just informed of this load Friday evening. I'm sure I'll be getting an earful later today. I know I'm supposed to stop by our yard in Youngstown to pick up my papers for crossing.

@gokiddogo You think I should call Canadian customs later today to check and make sure I can actually cross?

Do a Google for your answer.

Seems that Canada has laxed somewhat on drinking charges. Used to be no on duis. misdemeanor in America but felony in Canada. Last I looked, should be good to cross if over 10 years. I had mine expunged so onky way Canada will find out is lifetime mvr. I also read something about applying for a pardon or something to that nature. Whatever they call it. I think a lawyer was needed also.

Google is your Canadian friend. :)

Keep us posted. A Lot of members have questions and no one has yet to speak an answer.

Beside customs fees, you have bridge fees. Bring some cash. You will not be able to use your credit or bank cards at some places.

    And call Canada,
    1-204-983-3500

And ask them, call during the day to talk to an officer. They will tell you yes or no, AND do it before you are loaded.

Yeah I called them, they gave me a website to go to because she can't be sure what determination will be made by the agents at the border. She said generally since I was 20 years old, and the charge is over 10 years old, that it shouldn't be an issue.

Calling makes no difference. It’s up to the interviewing officer at the time.

You need to do all you can to see if you are legal to cross. As others have said, a petty offense in the states can be a felony across the pond. @rank might be able to help you if you can contact him. There is only one thing you need to know about Canada: their country their rules. They don't give a flying F about us.

Calling they can't tell you yes or no, it is up to officer in booth. Same as what post 35 said. There is no bridge toll at Champlain. There is a toll at the crossing where 81 goes up and in - cash only. Sarnia/port Huron toll there also - cash or card. Windsor/Detroit is toll by plate directly to your company. Buffalo and Lewiston going into Canada there is a toll cash or card or ezpass there. One way toll there, free going Canada to usa. We try to keep the riff raff out.

The best news of all with you going to la prairie you don't really enter no heavy congestion areas as it is on the south shore and it's a nice ride through the northern states

    Oxbow Thanks this.

What I would do, while it might not be TTR approved, is follow the axiom that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

If you want to go to Canada, if they ask about any convictions or arrests, I would just say "No, never". You will probably be fine. Worst they are likely to do is turn you around and your company will get another one of your trucks to move your load. After all, yours was a minor episode many years ago, just tell them you forgot about it. You didn't lie, you forgot.

OTOH, if you don't want to go to Canada, raise all the questions you want and your company will either find someone else or tell you to go anyway.

Wow. That’s some of the worst advise I have seen on this forum yet.
