2015 VNL780 and almost since I bought it (60k ago) I've had an intermittent trailer ABS light. I figured it was my craptastic leased trailer but I bought a nice 2015 Great Dane a couple months back, problem still there.

When the trailer place did a DOT on the new trailer they told me of the problem and said they tested the trailer and it was a bad signal coming from tractor. I replaced the air lines and pigtail with a new rubber set, much higher quality than OEM. I carefully cleaned and used di-electric grease on both plugs figuring that would fix it, no luck.

It's pretty much coming on every time I apply brakes nowadays and I don't care personally but I know I'll be ticketed in an inspection.

Question: Where is the ABS box/ECU or whatever so I can check the wiring and plugs around it for damage?

If not that, is there a way I can check things out myself or should I just take it to a shop to diagnose with software?

We’ll be it a Volvo, you should be able to run diagnostics for brakes in your dash menu screen.

The abs signal is the center pin in your pigtail. Blue wire.

Abs light coming on when you apply brakes usually is loss of power thru the blue wire. The abs light is telling you it is getting power from the brake light feed.

Check the power supply from truck to the ecm. Check each connection.

Could also be a faulty ground. Check your power circuit first.

    Good luck.

The ecu control box is usually mounted above or close to the axles. Find your sensor at the hub end and follow back to the computer.

What brand of abs do you have.
Do an ...abs...search, you will find plenty of information on this site.

Take a pair of needle nose pliers and yank
out the little bulb for the abs light.
Problem solved. You'll never have a abs light
    problem again.

That abs light will never light on and turn off during an inspection that will fail the trailer.

I am not getting any messages in on the dash. I'm not sure how to run diagnostics from the dash menu. I'll look it up in my owner's manual but if you have any tricks pass them on.

Not sure of ABS type/model. I'll have to do some homework. Hoping to get after this tomorrow afternoon.

    Thanks

I was talking about pulling the light out
    From behind the dashboard.
    The one inside the truck.
That's if you can get to it. Lol.

You should be able to toggle down from the main screen, down below trip, and etc down to system diagnostics, choose that, then go to brakes. Select that one and it will run a self test

    86scotty Thanks this.
