I believe Barroll was the member that recommended to me using old motor oil to treat the wood decking. Worked awesome.

Yep, used motor oil on a hot day works great. Oil treatment made the wood on my deck outlast the aluminum (15 year old Transcraft) even though it had been neglected most of its life. Just sweep the dirt off the wood, pour on the oil, and spread it out with a brush (I like a cheap 4" paint brush) as it sinks in. It'll keep new wood from drying out, and give new life to old, brittle, splintering wood. You might want to add a little diesel to the oil for a brand new deck so it soaks in a bit faster. New lumber won't have all the cuts and grooves in it that help the oil soak into a worn deck. 4 gallons is a good starting point, and you can re-apply annually for lasting protection.

Treated wood will not last very long, it is normally a soft wood like pine. If you want to do it right then use apitong, there is a reason that the manufactures use it.
