The more replies from you guys I get, the more it appears this is someone's way of charging me a higher premium. I mean.... never in my 20 yrs of inspections has a DOT man ever asked me for a trailer pink slip therefore I highly doubt the law requires it. And if my insurance company is just scraping me, why don't I sell all my trailers to someone and just get non owned trailer coverage? That must be cheaper.

    Liability and Physical Damage...

When in use the trailer is attached to the insured power unit and is covered for liability meaning protecting the public for the damage done.

Why would a dropped trailer require this?

Physical damage coverage IS optional even for your owned [paid off] power unit.

Wear and tear and minor road rash wouldn't be turned in to insurance in the first place as that sort of stuff needlessly adds dollars to the 'experience mod' amount which affects your renewal costs.

Get an independent broker familiar with trucking; someone who could make a call or two as they brought you to the company and may have worked out this kind of stupid stuff beforehand instead of having to reachout to the underwriter to get somebody's chain yanked back to reality.

How may trailers would you 'loose' and need to replace out of pocket to justify this coverage?
