I just replaced the license plate light on the tractor since it was rusted. The mechanic, said the light might have been backfeeding and might have been causing the trailer lights not to go on.
So the trailer lights was working for a while, and now its back to the same problem. Once I turn on the light switch, the trailer lights go on and off and I hear one of the circuit breakers in the fuse box, flick off.
Could this be an alternator or starter problem? I had a ground jumpstart 2 weeks ago, truck didnt have any crank at all.
Trailer lights keeps going off?

Just want to add that the voltage drops to about 13v from 14v when i turn on the light switch and the circuit breaker flicks off.

You have a short/high amperage draw some place. Unplug the trailer and see if it still does it. If it still does it unplug the cord on the truck side. If it stops replace the cord. But if it stops when the trailer is unplugged the problem is in the trailer.
iceman32 Thanks this. -

Sound to me like a short.

Truck lights stay on, only when the pigtails is plugged in the trailer lights go on off. The mechanic hooked up a diagnostic system to the trailer and the trailer seemed fine. He also checked the pigtails and power box for the trailer, nothing wrong with them.

He has a short or high amperage draw on his parking light circuit that is causing the circuit breaker to trip under the dash. So with the parking lights on he needs to unplug the green cord from the trailer. If the breaker stops tripping the problem is in the trailer.
If it does not stop tripping when he unplugs the cord then then he needs to unplug the cord from the tractor. If the breaker stops tripping then he needs to fix/replace the green cord.
After unplugging the cord from the truck the breaker still trips then his short is in the tractor.
This has nothing to do with the alternator, starter or the fact he needed a jump the other day. -
Im betting the test box didnt have fuses/circuit breakers in it.
