A PTI might've kept that from happening but then again someone mighta pulled the pin on him when he blocked a fuel island or cut someone off to get into the rest area to use the john. That kind of stuff happens as we all know....or maybe the mechanism froze up and he mighta thought he had them locked...hard to say....just hope he didnt get hurt too bad

That's why I look at my tandem pins and 5th wheel handle any time I walk back to my truck. When starting up, I back to my trailer and do a tug test. All of this only takes 30 seconds. But it prevents stuff like this from happening.

Yeah I learned to do that to after some jackalope pulled my pins while I was having lunch at a truck stop. that was when I drove for Celadon I started to pull out and decided to do a drag test and bam....my tandems went all the way back.....after that I made it a point to check both my 5th wheel and my tandems. Oh and for the record I was parked in a spot not on the fuel island or blocking anyone......LOL

I past that wreck the day it happened and the next day when they were doing that clean up.
I was not sure if he had lost control and the tandoms got caught on the guard rail and then broke off, or if they came off then he lost control.
If I remember correctly the company was Summit.

on the average you dont lose all your pins at once. You WILL lose them over time. Definatelly no PTI

One reason i am glad for air slide tandems. If you don't set the trailer brakes, the tandem pins wont dis-engage. Belive me, i've tried :biggrin_2555:

Doing a good pre trip is the best thing to do anyway. Feel sorry for the driver, it's gonna come out bad for them.

I find it amazing that we sat through ten minutes of backed up traffic when we could have just FF the vid:biggrin_2551:

So if I was to disconnect the (RED) Emergency glad hand I could remove the pins as the brakes would automatically set themselves.
