I searched before posting. All l found was a thread about a skateboarder wanting to add lights to his flatbed. So l just got a new dry van. I am interested in having marker lights added as shown in the picture below. It is a total of around 32 lights to be added.

Could anyone give me a guess of what kind of labor price l would be looking at? I found the recommendation for Maxxima lights here so that was a big help. I wanted to check here so l have an idea of what to expect from a tech that would do the install so l could negotiate if needed.

    Hi RubyEagle.
I don't have an answer to your question about costs, but I do sometimes get psychic messages.
The spirits tell me that a flame war will ensue, in this thread, about what happens if the bulb burns out on one of these after-market marker/clearance lights.

Whew, that was tough, have to lay down for a little bit.

    Good luck.

I can tell you that it will be very labor intensive! I am talking like 2 days worth of work in my opinion. It will be expensive!

Costly; I'd bet a lot of Chicken lights were home projects.

That many lights will cost a lot to install AND even more to keep them all functional. LED bulbs last a long time but the wiring is dependent on the quality of the original installation and how well it sheds moisture and resists corrosion. Eventually it will become more of a pain to maintain as age and weather WILL win in the end.

Save that money for bigger and better things; you are gonna need it!

Chicken lights are nice if you can afford to keep a mechanic on the payroll full time.

How much more per mile can you charge for all of the extra lights?

One thing i’ve found funny over the years about chicken lights is. The people that don’t like them and think we are crazy for having them are the ones that go all “Griswold” during the holidays and cover their houses with 220 giga watts of candle power. Lol.
Another thing I find funny is once you start it never stops. But it is fun.

Not too sure. Try starting your negotiation with a rate of 1 cent per mile per 25 lights.

Install them the correct way the first time & they are very little maintenance after that.
