Cleaning the pins and or spreading them is not! a waist of time.
Fact. I've been out here 28 years and have never needed or used a test light on a trlr.
( knocks on wood)
Any time I've had light issues with a trlr I've solved it by spreading the pins a little over 90% of the timeLast edited: Jul 2, 2018

Never mind. Lol.
I read the post again and he hooked up another TRUCK.
I read that he hooked to another TRAILER and they worked.
I've been truckin all night.

A broken clock is right twice each day, too. IF there is power to the pins, cleaning them might work. If not, you're wasting time messing around cleaning and spreading the pins rather than looking for the actual reason it isn't working...which you'll STILL have to do after cleaning the pins fails. You aren't going to track down a blown fuse, bad relay, or broken wire messing around with your WD40 and screwdriver.

In my heart I am fully with you. I would have never went without a tester. However with much of today's steering wheel holders they solve problems by screaming for a mechanic. Some of these drivers scare me even having a tool case.

Lmao, it doesn't even take 5 minutes to spread'em. Yeah that's a huge wast of time.

28 years out here , I have never carried a tester.
Oh excuse me , 26 yrs. I was a city driver for a couple yrs. -
I forgot the year. It was just after they opened up the remodeled scale house on I-85 northbound in South Carolina. I had been pulled in because I had a headlight out. I quickly fixed my issue and no paper was issued. However another driver had no tail lights and was told he could not leave in that condition. I grabbed my toolcase and offered to help. Turns out the trailer wiring had a break in it. Using my very sharp tester and the good grip it had to ground I was able to find where it was broke. Took me about 15 minutes. After I found the problem and fixed it the driver was able to leave. The DOT cop was just shaking his head. I know some drivers either have magical powers or they just scream for help. I have been driving for years too and have had maybe hundreds of situations where my tester or my small multimeter came in very handy.
