I'm not sure of any regulation requiring numbers. If it's your trailer, put a number wherever it's convenient for you.
-
Most trailers have num. on L ft. side of trailer so dummy at the shack can see it to put your num. on BOL
-
It's a good idea to put a number at the inside rear of the trailer on the wall so the loader can look and verify that he is about to load the right trailer.
-
Ideally there should be a number on the front corners so can be seen from front or side if backed in amongst a line of trailers.
One visible from the back. It can be on a door, preferably driver side, or rear lower main frame member below the doors (so can be visible if doors are latched open)
And one inside the trailer. -
The law does not address the issue of numbers etc on your trailer. Whatever makes you happy.
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Put numbers in different languages. In some places nobody can read English.

I hauled 3 brand new flats from the manufacture across country to office. With nothing but the envelopes for each trailer. The two top ones got offloaded and i kept the one i was hooked up to. Dragged it around the country for a month with a temporary before it got plated and numbered.
