    If you never drop your trailer at other facilities, it not critical or even necessary to have "trailer numbers" readily visible. But at some point you may need to drop it, like at a repair shop. They will be looking for a identifiable number amongst a sea of other trailers.

    We use the plate number as the trailer number. Works for us, but we rarely unhook and don't go into warehouses etc.
