What's a penny?:dontknow: With inflation, you need to use a quarter now.

Not all. Goodyear (and maybe others) offers a cap with no seams. The recap tread is molded as a ring.

MACK E-6 and Grumppy Thank this.

Hey, it's not often one gets a chance to toss a rock at the ivory tower without worrying about knocking a banhammer off its hook! :D

When they first came out, I could see the benefit. A lot of retreaders were using generic tread that resulted in the tread not matching up at the seam. Nowadays Michelin (and most likely others) pre-mold the tread in differing lengths for the various sizes so it matches up. Never had a cap come apart at the seam anyways, it was always casing failure or tread deamination. Been a decade since I've run any personally, though.

    MACK E-6 Thanks this.

Low pressure is the kiss of death for a recap. Pulling rail cans, I went through a LOT of recaps, 2 or 3 a week, easy. Once I had my own air hose, my "alligators" decreased significantly. I never ran recaps on my tractors.
