When you own the trailer, but run under someone else's authority, who is responsible for getting/paying the plate?

depends of your lease agreement with authority owner, but normally you pay for your plates. For trailers it is not that expensive either way.

Always had my own. I go to the local court house and get one for about $95. It never needs renewal and stays with the trailer for as long as I own it. That's how it works in TN. Probably similar in most other states. It's a lot simpler than plating a tractor.

I second Staab Agency in Maine.

They overnighted the plate to me in PA and they were pleasant and helpful to deal with.

    mugurpe Thanks this.

I don't understand the reason for this. I tagged mine here in florida for around $100 and it never expires.

Yea that might be but I'll bet you have to have a Florida address to tag it there. Anyone can tag a trailer in Maine, no address required.
