Hello all. I am hoping to obtain some advice from some people here. I am currently thinking about switching carriers I am least to, however 1 carrier that I have in mind requires that I have my own trailer or either rent one to own from them.... they also gave me the option of rent teen or lease seen 1 from someone else ( xtra, premier, pal etc ). my only problem is that my credit is not great so my question is does anyone know of a company that will rent me a trailer with bad credit? or either a no credit check? any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

well the question is what kind of trailer are you looking for. I live in south western pa and good ready to roll dry vans can be bought daily for under 5 grand. we just bought a 99 walbash with stainless doors all alumin wheels 90 percent tires virgin great sides new see through roof new load sercment systems for 4150.00 so i might look into buying instead of leasing or renting.

Thanks carrkool I will surely look into it..oh Im looking for a 53ft dry van with swing doors, preference is air ride.... and looks like you got a awesome deal. is it true that lots of places want your trailer to be 10 yrs or newer?......rich_trucking I called extra to get a quote here in ga and they told me I could not be an owner operator and obtain one from them unless I worked from an office and not my truck or home...have either of you ever heard of this or even know why this is??

i have not had an issue with trailer age. just truck age so far. but who knows. the trailer i got is a 53x102. i would def look around. any ideas where you plan on leasing on to. i know landstar does truck and trailer. you can get a trailer rented through them but again long term its not worth it...lol i look at things like this. if i have to put out close to what it would cost to own it. i will by it. even if its short term atleast i own it and i can do what i wish with it. nothing worse to me than handing someone 5 grand and get nothing in return...lol and trailer maintance is not bad at all. biggest thing is tires....heck the guy i am leased to just redid some of his trailers. 4 grand for all new brakes drums cansters lines slack adjuster s cams bushings all new lines and wiring. all new abs sensors. than another 1200 for all new slider kits.....so for under 6 grand he rebuilt most of the trailer. than he painted them to match his truck he had the paint already though but i think he pays 150 a gallon for the paint he gets....but looks good matched up....hes got a yellow classic with marron fenders tanks and full fenders painted and the trailers are white sides with marron tops and bottoms and sub fram marraon with yellow hardware like the landing feet and the handle and the door hinges things like that to highlight....lol well think i got of topic alittle. but yea trailers seem to be cheaper used around me even if you need to put some work into them. main thing on it is the floor. everything else is easy to do...

You really need to look in truck paper and expect to spend some time on the road shopping. I just did a few searches in GA, AL, TN, and SC and there are 100s available for under $6k. A lot of junk to sift through for that money, but you're buying one not fifty. There will be a few good ones. Another hint: many of the dealers posting ads also rent them. Big outfits like Xtra, Penske, etc only will do business with established carriers with good credit. They make their money leasing hundreds at a time, not on singles. You're just not that interesting to them LOL.

There's many threads on here about trailer age/condition being an issue some places. A carrier will only reject if they have a shipper that will. Usually shippers that forklift load heavy cargo like paper are the ones that get picky about age. Or ones that have product that would be damaged by moisture. Like paper LOL.
