Usually if the pin isn’t hooked, the trailer falls off when youre turning out of the parking lot .

Probably high-hooked. Can pass a tug test, looks good, feels right at touch of rod (sorry if that sounded gay)...but just ONE bounce or bump and this happens. I'd bet this guy had a nearly full tank, so the surge didn't bounce the trailer until he was in traffic. Good brakes, bad hook.
LoneRanger, Phoenix Heavy Haul, JonJon78 and 6 others Thank this. -
It's a lot of drivers dropping trailers lately. Bonehead Truckers has several each week lol. You gotta get up under there and look, boys and girls.

Good thing they were empty. Loaded, it wouldn't have looked so good. I agree, high hook. I bet THAT made some noise. I can see the boss, "how did those dolly pads get ground off"? Beats me, boss,,
jaffles Thanks this. -
The traffic in that section is usually slow stop and go ,
It’s right where I-20 turns off and there’s a steep hill on the ramp and on 20 , so loaded trucks , especially if it’s slow traffic at the bottom , just can’t build any Speed up the ramp , so the traffic is always slow there . -
Aren't we being a little quick to hang the driver for this? It could have been a bad fifth wheel. They don't happen very often but they happen.
Let's give the driver the benefit of the doubt.ducnut, Snailexpress, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
that's IF the driver gets to the office, instead of a quick exit out the door, with his bags packed.Capacity Thanks this.
