I just talked with an Xtra dealership and their rates are ridiculous. $425 a week or $1350 for 4 weeks. Plus
$1.50 per hour for time reefer spends running and 4 cents per mile.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me being a previous reefer owner.
-
There has got to be cheaper rates than that out there. Any pointers?
-
You could buy one. There are more companies than xtra as well, but for a decent reefer you're going to pay.
-
The age of the trailer isn't really an issue to me (not going to cali) but it needs to pass dot of course

Try some of the independent trailer companies. You might call K & L Truck and Trailer in Knoxville, TN. I don't know if they rent reefers, but they do rent various types of trailers.

You can get a reefer from XTRA they have over 80,000 trailers nationwide mostly vans, flats, then reefers. Got one in KC, MO several months ago,a dry van. They had a couple of reefers. Best thing to do is call and see what they can get. And definitely shop. The trailer I got was paid for by the broker's customer. Pulled that for about 6 weeks brand new trailer rent free.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it

Just curious to what you would call reasonable. I think .04 a mile and $1.50 per hour is reasonable and $1350 a month is similar to a financed new reefer. So the convenience of being able to pick up a near new, if not new reefer, use it for a couple months and return it, is free.

It's only reasonable if you can afford it with rate you are getting.
