That must be on 285,I drove through Pecos many times for Halliburton. That must have been a long load and not enough clearance to get over the tracks there.Regular length trucks run through there constantly. Most of those towns in west Texas have truck routes and you can't off them or you will get a ticket.
Feedman and Getsinyourblood Thank this. -
I thinks there's warning signs there for lowboys.Feedman Thanks this.

The freight trains in that area from pecos to midland/odessa usually run at apx 80mph..Feedman, Getsinyourblood, stwik and 1 other person Thank this.

I may be wrong, but I recall being told (I can't remember by whom) that a metal bar placed on the tracks making a connection between the two will cause the signals to go to red. I worked on a hydro-electric project where we had to haul across a set of tracks that were fairly elevated, and that was when I was told that. This was before cell phones and out in the country with no land line near.
Naturally one would think that a stuck trailer would most likely contact both rails and therefore, if this were true, the signals would have switched. So either I'm full of crap (highly possible) or the train was beyond the closest signal, or it was too late to stop.
Regardless, and especially with police presence on this move, that number on the blue sign that also identifies the crossing location should have been called immediately. Perhaps it was, but the train was too close already?Ok big boy, Hammer166, Feedman and 1 other person Thank this. -
How long or...or how far...is the complete stopping distance on a train going as fast as that one?
-
There's alot of youtube videos covering this wreck and alot of commenters saying this truck was stuck on the tracks for over an hour... who knows if that's true or not but if it is.. that is really bad nobody cared to call the phone number on the sign
AModelCat, Hammer166, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
If they were truly stuck for an hour and nobody bothered to call Union Pacific they’re going to be in big trouble especially the escort..there were report’s of police escorting them but only saw one motor officer after the fact so not sure about that
