Trainer my Trainer - a lamentation

I'm staying out of the "how much" vs. "too much" training aspect of this thread; just hoping the O/P gets some cleaning supplies, and successfully gets thru his last week (or less) of training, and becomes a safe, clean (and learned) member of our community.

You are driving bulk? As in loads of cement or the similar? The level of dust generated by a typical delivery or blow down can be overwhelming.

I drive bulk cement for our customers that can't get enough drivers. It's all slip seat, so none of the trucks are clean. Some need degreaser on the windshield to cut through the caked on fracking fluids that can't be removed with a putty knife (NOT an exaggeration).

If indeed you are doing bulk, then after a few months you might start finding yourself hitting the rack at the end of a long, hard day instead of breaking out the cleaning supplies while knowing it's going to get filthy again within 12 hours.

Just sayin'...

...you want to be really clean and drive a truck? Then swing doors and bang docks.

 

I was still polishing my spouse as a trainer unofficially the whole year. Something comes up for her and it's require a little finesse sometimes only experience and treachery can provide.

 

For a minute there i thought you were going to say you were a sub marina used to confined spaces i often wonder how a company chooses who does the training clearly they haven't had a look at his truck recently, best off complaining to the company bosses about it, and take lots of pic's say its a safety issue and see what happens.

Exactly my thoughts. I never had a trainer when I started 6 years ago.

 

That might be interesting or not 03. Hop aboard and take me for a spin we'll see how you roll. If I find nothing bad to pick on or toss you, then I think you did well for yourself. Maybe you train eh?

People have a way of developing bad habits the way a walnut tree goes sideways over a house if you don't pay mind to them while young....

 

Neither did I, when I was "grandfathered" in to my dad's refuse / trash company that I took over when I was (almost) 16.... this was the late '70's into the '80's, mind you. I took a break from driving to go into IT on a paid grant thru Lucent Tech.... it was sweet thru the '90's, for sure... then RIF'd in '98. Got a job driving a Vactor (sp?) locally, but not enough hours to raise a fam.
Went to a "refresher" thru RM in 2000.... OTR for a couple few years, and here I am.
The refresher was really just a couple videos, PreTrip, and road test. Company paid for it.
I've never "really" been out with a trainer, either... so.....I'm on the fence here. Then again, I'd had my "feet wet" for MANY years, before just jumping into a truck. I'd worked on them all my life, and UNDERSTAND what does what, why, and how. Not everyone is born a mechanic.
I think that knowing the workings, growing up with twin sticks, kinda gives a guy a leg up.

How much experience did you have before you had "not" a trainer, @ChaoSS ? I mean, even being AROUND the industry is an experience in itself. I was kinda born into it, myself.
