Just wanted to add in, that I've checked out quite a few companies that hire student drivers, and I recall 2 that require less than a year of experience. Swift is 6 months, and another I can't recall is 9. People here will laugh at 1 year too, but the 6 month thing is not the industry norm, it is the bottom of the bottom feeder companies. Just something that's bugged me, like claiming training pay is 350 a week or so. Have seen maybe one or two below 400 a week, most are 400 to 600.

Who pays 600 a week for training?Alot of the training companies are bottom feeders but the ones that require a high GPA from the school you attended are probably the better ones and do require more exp to be a trainer.
-
What company was this? You'd be doing the newbies a favor if you posted it but if you don't want to PM me.
Drac1985 Thanks this. -
DOT FOODS pays $500 a week plus all meals are paid while training. It may be best deal out there for students, but it is for 8 weeks and they have a limited hiring area.

Also, is your tr ainer there to train you or use you to get miles.

This forum has tons and tons of useful information. Do you know the best source for questions like that though? The hiring company. Just shoot them an email. Training length and who drives during training (and if they team, how much one on one training do you get before that). I've really enjoyed the companies that have online chat representatives.
As for Dot, I'm pretty sure their training is just one on one, I think I'd remember if they said they did teaming, I went to two of their presentations throughout school, lol. Some people may just hate the idea of team driving during training altogether, but don't bash it and pretend it doesn't include one on one training beforehand. Why is 4 weeks one on one and 4 weeks team training worse than only 1 to 4 weeks of one on one at other companies (just an example on numbers). -
I want to but I have to deal with them so I won't. I brought this issue up to the CEO and ripped into him about, he confirmed it after looking into it but made a lame excuse about his team feels it was the right decision to make.rockee Thanks this.

That's a start...but not near enough time to gain the experience needed to train a newbie...The DOT should mandate that all trainers for all companies have at a minimum of 10 years experience , with an impeccable driving record. Also all trainers should log all their time in the passenger seat..none of this using a trainee as a co-driver garbage. It takes years to develop the right skills , and the patience to be a trainer.

I don't have any solid numbers, but with the turn over rate in the industry, I think it's safe to say there aren't enough ten year vets in starter companies to train all the student drivers they get, lol. I think driving is a serious thing, but ten years to train? That's ridiculous and impossible.
