Stevens puts a lot of emphases on safety. Just listen to the instructors and you'll do fine.

Great job on the driving test, now the real training starts. Good luck, and most of all - enjoy it.

Just out of curiosity what percentage of your starting class graduated? And also are you receiving any sort of compensation during the wait period for a trainer?

When you are cleared for dispatch you recieve your weekly pay every week regardless of being on a truck or not.

My class started with 29 and now is down to 13. Out of the 13, 6 of us got our CDL. The other 7 are still trying to pass the dmv road test. A lot of people in my class quit for one reason or another with few actually being sent home for something.

Listen, learn, and ask questions about anything you don't understand. A lot of us have been doing this so long we forget to point out what we do because it is routine for us. If your trainer does something that leaves you scratching your head, ask him what and why he did it. It probably has a reason and he just forgot to share it with you. Most of all, enjoy life... this isn't a job if you really love it. Sure, it has it's bad moments, but there's nothing like a great big sunset over the Rockies, or sunrise over the Atlantic... things you'd never see in a factory. Good Luck!

A little sad news but not surprising. Stevens just put an order in for automatic trucks for next year.
