Man that seems like about the right timeframe.. I just can't remember for the life of me what the exact dates were. Course, I had the full training schedule while you had the three day orientation so we may have just missed each other.

Now for the Sage Report: Classroom all day today. Several videos (with the necessary quizzes after each, of course), and started on memorizing the pre-trip.

Now.. to be completely honest here, before I started (and perhaps the first couple days in class) I thought I would be pretty much 'coasting' through the schooling since I already have my CDL and a little bit of experience. I switched my mindset after the second day, however, and am determining to go at this from a beginner standpoint (which, of course, I am -- I just had this big ego when I was coming in because "these other people don't have ANY experience.. I'm such a salty old dog!" HA!). Since I have decided to look at things like that (and yall aren't gonna believe this...), I'm actually LEARNING NEW STUFF!! :biggrin_25524: (I know.. go figure, right?)
So.. now that I've gotten that off my chest :biggrin_255: ...

I have discovered a HUGE bonus in coming to Sage that I had not planned on. All the staff, from the Director of the school to each of the instructors, know people. Now, this may not come as a surprise to some of you, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how much each one of the staff members has been helpful in not only training matters, but also in suggesting places and people who might be hiring (based on their own experience), depending on what you want to do (what you want to make, how often you want to be home, etc.)!

Now that is some awesome news Leadfoot80. I'm pleased to hear that it's going well for you and that you are finding the training useful. I agree with you about the staff. They are good people and genuinely care about others. They do a great job with placement and I have them to thank for my job with Gemini. Keep us posted on your progress!

My wife and I finally came to the decision that we're going to be moving to Colorado after the baby is born. I plan on attending SAGE here in Cheyenne an obtaining my CDL before moving. I am still trying to decide what kind of job would be best for me, and I'm thinking a regional run might be the best option for me. I would rather be gone a few days at a time than a few weeks at a time. For local, SAGE recommended Waste Management, but I really would rather be out on the road. Not that the job is "below me," but I would just rather be out on the road. I still have to find 3 companies for the pre-hire deal for SAGE. Anyone have any ideas of any regional runs I could land out of school on the Front Range?

You might want to give American Furniture Warehouse a call. Jake wants his trucks home every weekend.

Naw, when Joe talked with the Fountain guys and said he was thinking about bringing another driver on down there, they sort of had a change of heart about it. Heck, right now we have us, the Denver guys, and Fountain, all running over each other LOL.

Leadfoot, you made a comment about the staff knowing people. That they do. And just like Jynxx helping me out, I tried to help another driver I worked with get hired on. Word of mouth and "who you know" goes a long way to help finding a job. Too bad Fountain really didn't need another Driver, Ron would have been a good choice. He was a cop for years, then hauled a motorcycle racing team rig for the bosses son from High Desert, then started running trucks in the Oilfield.

And it was probably Dave mentioning Jynxx/me? He's a good guy...tell him Erik says hi and that we need to be paid a finders fee LMAO.

Colorado is a good choice for trucking.
Some of the companies I have seen around there that I know are local regional:
Solar, Groendyke, Pilot, and Flying J (fuel)
Foster, A&W, Rain-for-Rent, and a bunch of other water and Oilfield trucking companies.
I'm sure Warner has regional runs out of the front range.

You might find out from the cheyenne school house what the number is for the Sage school down there. They should be able to help you out finding a Colorado company. I have seen the Sage students down at the Hudson Love's numerous times, so I know there is a sage location nearby.

The pre-hire deal isn't hard at all. I just used three of the Mega carriers for my pre-hires. Warner, Swift and USA Trucking. Think I had a fourth which was Watkins/Shepard. The pre-hire doesn't really mean much as I've seen several students with pre-hires get turned down by that same company once they begin the orientation process. As I mentioned earlier, you should have no problem finding something regional out of Denver. Schneider runs regional from there to several places like Las Vegas. Warner has a big yard there and has regional runs. Lots of smaller outfits that run regional out of Denver. Another thing to consider is that you will probably get quite a few leads as your going through the program at Sage.

Congratulations on your decision to join the industry and on deciding to train at Sage. I think you will find it to be a good decision and I know you will really like the staff there. :)
