Hey all. New CDL grad here, 40yr old fit female, D&Ts HazMat Tankers AirBrakes endorsements, living in western PA near Pittsburgh. I wasn't planning on going OTR just yet, but it looks like getting any kind of paid position might require it. Are there any companies that train new grads anywhere near the Pittsburgh area? I've googled extensively with no luck but I figured it's worth asking about here in case I'm missing something.

The job market for CDL holders is really bad right now -- & especially so for CDL holders with no previous experience.
Don't go into this expecting it to be an easy (or quick) hunt.
Do you want/need hometime weekly, every other week....or just whenever?
What type(s) of freight interest you the most?
Or will you take whatever...to get started?

An outstanding opportunity -- for the right kind of individual -- note also...NO PREVIOUS CDL experience is required:
Schneider -- tanker truck driver -- home every other week -- Pittsburgh, PA
Most likely....if accepted for this position...you would be trained for this role at their tanker training facility in Coraopolis, PA.

What carriers (if any) visited your class -- while you were in CDL school?
Did you not like any of them?
Were their recruiters just too much like many used car salespeople?
Were the promises/offers a bit too good to be true?
Were their answers to student questions a bit too sketchy?

Start off in their glass group (mo money there)....then later on -- switch over to their marine division (cool freight, cool stops, cool customers):
Maverick Transportation -- Pittsburgh, PA -- hires & trains new CDL holders
Easily some of the best training for new drivers in the industry....

This is one reason I really advise newbies to NOT go get a CDL until they have that first employer ready to hire them. What's done is done.
EVERY company that hires puts them with a trainer for weeks or months before sending them solo. CDL school just taught you how to pass the state road test and not much else. 95% of the training at your first employer with your trainer when you share a truck.Kristina333 Thanks this.
