Hey Rob, how is the test run going? Keep us posted. Just wanted to update my sons progress. After they tah was over, they were sent from home (kissimmee, fl) to Atlanta (deadhead miles) to pick up a load, from there they took it to Kettlemen City, Ca. Picked up at 5 AM Tuesday in Atlanta, delivered at 2:30 AM Thursday, received new dispatch while enroute to Kettlemen City that after they dropped that load, they were to go about 50 miles to Fresno, Ca to pick up a load at 6 AM Thursday and deliver back to Atlanta, not sure when it was to be delivered. Needless to say, they are thrilled! This is only their second week of driving together without a trainer and they have gotten over 5000 miles this week (started week one day late, week starts on Sunday and their tah ended on Monday morning) and both will make over a $1000 for this week (pre-tax). To be 23 and 21 years old, making that kind of money, they think they are rich! :biggrin_255: I don't know if it is just the luck of the draw, a good dispatcher, or the company they work for, or what, but after reading some of the other posts here (K&J and Daytona's especially) I was really worried about things, wondering if they would get any decent miles, but at least this week has worked out great! Now, we shall just have to see how long their luck can hold out!
Hey mikell....where you at? How's things going on your end?

Thanks for the update I'm sure the boys are going to love CFI/Conway Truckload. Great Job.
I went out today with Ed the senior guy he was great. I Like the job it is physical as well as driving and thats great because I have a lot of lbs. to lose anyway Big daddy is 300+ and wants to tone down to 220-250 range.
I didnt drive today was mainly doing the job picking up bags of crushed cans, recycled plastic from redemption machines and pushing bins of crushed Glass onto the truck via lift gate through out eastern Ma, Boston and were picking up accounts out on Cape Cod. I will either train with Ed for a few weeks or test out in a few days. They need to see me back, alley dock sight side and blind then a road test. Ed said maybe saturday the boss will bring me in for a road test then he can make a better determination. :biggrin_25525: Things are looking up. I'll keep everyone posted Thanks:biggrin_25522:

    Hi Rob,

Sounds like things are going well. CFI was on my short list of places to look into. I can't wait to get back to school. I miss the guys, I was really enjoying it. The on the job training I got from the 2 companies I worked for those 2 days were fun and the people I dealt with at them were great.

No word on when I'll be getting back. I see my doctor next Wednesday. The physical therapist that comes to the house told me that I'll be lucky if the doctor finally lets me put a small amount of pressure on the leg, 20lbs or less. That means I'll only have 235 lbs to go. LOL

I might have said it before, but my next major goal is swapping the crutches and walker for a cane and permission to drive my car. I was able for the first time to get my leg into the front seat of my wife's car last night.

Who knows, It's a small world. Maybe buy the time I'm able to get back to training and looking for a job you'll be my trainer. LOL

Any way, keep us up to date. It's encouraging to know your moving right a long.

I dont think they will get paid for those miles from the delivery drop home if it was a deadhead home think of the gas diesel is like 4.40 gl. but I could be wrong as I am a newbie too.

It is 28 cents per mile during training and 30 cents when you get your truck

Second day tryout with dpr went great. A lot heavier day than thursday, allot of glass. I talked to the Manager and told him I like the job and can do the work. He said ok,he"ll have the main office send me for the whiz quiz. Once that comes back he can hire me as a driver (swing driver) and helper at the drivers rate of $170 a day monday- friday with occasional saturdays. I will spend next week doing landscaping as I continue to put in apps and look for interviews. There's an add in the paper I"m trying to get in touch with looking for drivers. One of my classmates friends knows the owner so we'll see what happens.
