My sons will be starting there on the 25th. They leave on the bus tomorrow. They both already have their cdl's which they paid for (financed). Sounds like a great company! Keep up the posts, we're reading them all! :biggrin_25514:

The only thing they were told to bring was enough clothes for 3 weeks. That's pretty vague, we're from Florida so they don't even have any winter clothes. They're out shopping right now trying to find a winter coat to bring. Don't know if they'll find one or not since it's the end of Feb. Most of that stuff is gone already. Do you have any suggestions on what they should bring? Did CFI give you anything? Like maybe a Truckers Road Atlas or any other type of goodies? Plane ride would have been much better, but it's probably too late now, CFI has already bought the bus tickets. Oh well, hopefully they won't pick up too many germs!! :smt030

If they cant find a winter coat. A hoody sweat shirt and a light jacket, hat and light pair of gloves, would be ok but you are from FL and Im from New England so I am probly more use to the cold. We were not standing out in the cold that long the trucks they train in are kw t2000 with the bunks taken out and in there place they put 4 seats .i do know that the walmart still had hats and gloves. The rooms at the boonslick have a refer and a microwave. They will feed them at crowder collage lunch and dinner, breakfast at boonslick.Tell them to be ready for WED they will do a 3:30 am drive.

Joplin has a ton of thrift stores. I got a $200 jacket at one for like five bucks once. Tell your sons to try the thrift stores.

you may not be in joplin that long. Also tell them not to study for the test they are told not to worry about it will be open book .I stayed up like 3 extra hours and found out when we got there it was open book. The pre trip is simulated nothing to worry about just make sure you go there willing to learn and listen to them. If you make it past WED you are pretty much in. .They will teach you more in one day than you did in a month in your driving school. The first day in crowder will be fun once you get out of the class room (after lunch) you will be driving the trucks on a course trough the base its cool.kelly and john are cool I liked kelly better.

Good Luck Mikel! I put the two boys on the greyhound this morning, talk about new experiences! My oldest son is 23 and spent a little over a year in Iraq, he jokingly made the comment while waiting for the bus and observing the crowd at the bus station that he felt like his life was in more danger at that point than it ever was in Iraq! He was just kidding of course, but it was an eye opener. The cops had to come and haul one lady away because she got in a fight with the greyhound secuity guard. He was trying to make her leave, told her she couldn't be sleeping there, and she got really feisty with him! I didn't realize you have to take tests again for the company, thought they only had to do that to get the cdl in school? Is that so they can see what you did and did not learn during school? Also, how much time do they spend teaching you trip planning and logging? That is the two areas that the school really did not spend much time on. Or is that something your trainer will be working with you on? Thanks for your info, it has been very vaulable!:biggrin_25514:
