    Hey all,

I'mwondering if there seems to be a "Normal" amount of training miles that a new driver should expect?

MCT has the drivers train for 10,000 miles. Is that a usual amount?

    Thanks!

You can do 2,500 miles per week easily, so 10,000 miles is 4 weeks.

No one should even accept less than 4 weeks of training in OTR, if they are smart.
There are too many variables and too many situations, and you should be glad of your training time.

Well, unless you get a really lousy trainer.

But, OTR, you could expect maybe 8 loads in that time.
That would be 2 per week, 16 docks to deal with and many more truck stops.
Each of those is a learning experience.
And believe me, that will be not too much.

You may be hot to trot into your first solo truck.
But once you are there, you are on your own.
No one else to help you out in those hard backing situations.
No one else to help you figure out the system.
You will be on your own.

Sure, there will be some other drivers that will help you back into a tight spot.
And you can always call your trainer for advice.
But once you are on your own in a truck, you can not really rely on getting that help when you may need it.

So learn all you can, and don't try to get there before you are actually ready for it.
