I can tell you, that if you go to frac or cement you will get almost no training. I started in frac and all they did was one short driving "test" which consisted of me driving a few miles and the trainer texting the whole time. Then they told me which truck I was driving and told me to follow the guy in front of me.

Maybe to better answer your question. You really dont get taught how to drive out here , more on how to operate the equipment, whatever that may be. The driving training is mainly to see if you can accelerate and downshift through the gears, if you can go somewhere and get some training with an old driver for a month or two thats best . I went to school at cr england. I learned alot from it. Dont work there just do the school. 2weeks at the yard then 4-5 weeks with a trainer then u go one week on the last phase and your done. That Hawaiian guy taught me how to drive. -
I only need three more years and I'll be done with the oil field. I'm pretty sure I could work in frac as long as I want. I know plenty of guys that have 10-15 years in and at least one with 34 years as of next month. But I understand what you are saying. There are plenty of lay offs and you better be willing to move to where the work is if you want to keep your job when the slow down comes.
