I'm new to this obviously but since I am new I've been exposed to lots of rules and regs and read a lot researching for my first job. From what I've read and heard depending on how long you've been gone you'll need a refresher course before you can be hired. Second you might have to go with one of the self insured companies like us new drivers. Most of the companies that hire new people seem to let you have one serious ticket in so many years and you're good. But still need the refresher and probably have to go threw orientation with all the new hires as well.

Refresher at Swift consists of 3 days orientation and either 50 or 240 hrs BTW with a mentor. There are also some video courses that have to be completed. I assume othe companies are similar.

I am at the academy right now. It's in Fort Worth Texas near downtown. If you already have your CDL you will start on a Thursday. Housing is provided, meals are not. You will get breakfast at the hotel, but you won't be there long before you get put in the dorm.

Classes are 7 days a week from 7am to between 5 and 6pm with an hour for lunch. After 10 days you will go the the main terminal in Lancaster TX for 3 days of orientation, provided you have passed the FFE road test the Friday before. Meals are provided while in Lancaster. After that it's approx 6 weeks with your on the road trainer. Could be less or more depending on your skill level.

    Hope that helps.

If you live outside of Texas, do you need your CDL license to go to FFE's school, or do you only need your cdl permit

I believe you need to be a Texas resident to get licensed in Texas. I remember reading this somewhere I might be wrong. So I guess you would need your license going in. I was curious about FFE's refresher course as well, any info.

If you guys have questions ask away I have been with FFE
For about 2 years to honest miles are terrible right
Now usually late march they pick up
For the most part u can make money with this company
I believe FFE starts new drivers at 28-29 cents per
    Mile
