Op, safety first, which means you are the captain of the ship, adjust the mirrors, turn the heat on and do what you have to do so you drive safely, including telling him to shut up if he is bothering you while you are driving.

Makes me glad I never had that problem with my first mentor. We'll see how the one Western Express puts me up with will be... I'm hoping equally smooth. Would like to get back in my own truck sooner rather than later.
Regardless, if I were you I'd be getting a new mentor or telling the current one to piss off and worry about his own shift. If anything happens because your mirrors are out of adjustment or you're more focused on shivering than driving, then that's on YOU, and NOT him. Whoever's at the wheel is the captain, and undermining the captain is mutiny. Do not tolerate mutiny, even from your mentorx1Heavy Thanks this. -
Even if the trainer was Captain Bligh and has completely dominated your psyche because you are a puppy sniffing and licking noses seeking approval from the so called Alpha inside the truck with you.
You will asset yourself once you are in that drivers seat.
I hate to keep going with my favorite subject here today, I was thinking back to my ex who was painfully shy, you would not hear or see her. Until she jined the Beloved Corps and was issued enough stripes to dispose of that problem. (And they fixed it too...)
Took her years to decompress and be her again in our home.
The moral of the story is simple.
"We love you collectively" and want you to succeed, ogre trainer or not. And will continue to provide the tools to short circuit the same until you have your own truck. -
I checked in with safety about the night mode. Then called my trainee representative and informed her.
When we swapped drivers; I went to adjust the mirrors and he said no. So I said I couldn’t continue operate in good consciousness while committing a safety violation.
He said then why had I been operating as is for the last 2 weeks. I just reiterated that I wanted to adjust the mirrors and that I did have issues on my first drive that I reported. Looped that for a bit. I called my rep and told her that he wasn’t letting me adjust mirrors.
He finally let me adjust mirrors; but then swapped seats and said they were adjusted wrong. I said they were adjusted to how I sit and that we are different people. Looped that a bit.
Asked me if there was anything else, and I brought up the OnGuard; told him night mode wasn’t a safety violation. That I had checked with safety. He sorta went on a bit of a rant about how he’s the one with 30 years of experience and what else could I possibly “think” I knew.
I should’ve stopped there. He kept saying just come out with. So I asked him about the glad hands. He told me to pack and get off the truck.
I texted my rep while packing. He gets a phone call from the trainer supervisor. They talk. He tells them he doesn’t know why I drove the last two weeks... I’m honestly not really sure what all he said even though I was just a few feet from him.
I’m texting with my rep. She says he said I was turning off the OnGuard. I said I was putting it on night mode and that I had already checked with safety and even informed you. Sent her some info about night mode; beeps like normal just inverts the contrast.
He gets off the phone and I’m no longer being told to get off the truck. Honestly would’ve preferred him telling me to get off his truck.
He asked I was ready to drive. I said yes sir, if I can operate safely. He said if I didn’t want to drive I was free to get off if I wanted. I told him I didn’t want to get off.
Got a text saying he said I could adjust the mirrors while parked. This time he didn’t try to “correct” me while I adjusted the mirrors.
Got in the sleeper berth as soon as we got on interstate and just poked his head out to mumble at me. He’d never come out before unless I asked him something or was exiting.
I might have won the battle but the next 3 weeks is gonna be hell. The animosity is thick now.Last edited: Oct 8, 2019
dwells40 Thanks this. -
You two need to be away from each other.
Come on now.... why... it will only get worse from there potentially affecting the revenue of the company or the ability of either one of you to be safe.
Its not acceptable to roll a big rig when two people are in conflict inside that tractor. -
He’ll get over it.

I’m getting off; we spoke this morning and while he isn’t going to terminal, the route passes it by a few hours.
I just didn’t want my leaving to inconvenience him or the load schedule and at least he somewhat explained that it shouldn’t be a concern for me.dwells40 Thanks this.
