I have mixed feelings for CRE. When I was there during the paperwork it was grand. I had a instructor "Joe" (spoke like henry kissinger) that showed me other things that help even to this day. Always willing to learn.
    ---
    little story here
    ---
Joe had me drive the truck from the yard in Burns Harbor out to the Pilots. We switched to another student "D". D drove the truck some 5 miles. Then "F" drove the truck. F drove the truck back almost to the yard. Then "T" was allowed to drive for about one mile. Lord T needs help, sigh. Then it was back to me. Joe had me drive the truck from some abandoned repair shop back to Michigan City, where most of the training was done. I did really well, till Joe let out a nervous cough. Then I started making grade school mistakes. Missing gears and such. Well at any rate we pull into the shopping plaza and park the truck. Joe unbuckles his seat belt and faces the 3 out back and says..... You, you, and you, all passed. He then turns around and starts getting out of the truck. I asked what about me? He replied.. "Oh, you passed when you did the pretrip, I just didnt want to tell you".

    LOL

First time poster, just signed up today and I've been with contact with CRE and currently waiting on the phone call about the first class. My wife said just check the web and other sites see if anything closer or good reviews some things too good to be true, and after about 9 hours of reading these forums and that ripoffreport website man ole man I havn't found a ratio of good/bad stories about CRE..

Are there any currently good schools for newbies to start for OTR? Or They seem to be all like this?

Last question, how is everyone loads with recession going?

Are you still employed by C.R. England?

    WELCOME to the forums! :biggrin_25519:
    After 9 hours of readin',
are you gonna answer the phone when/if it rings?
Sounds like you have a smart wife. :yes2557:
I hope you're smart enough to listen to her, and take her advice ---- BEFORE the bovine excrement hits the fan.
If you're sayin' that the ratio is a tad OFF balance toward the bad, what are you thinkin' now?

YeS, there ARE currently good schools to begin learnin' about OTR truckin'.
No, they're NOT all as bad as C.R. England.
But C.R.E. IS one of the WORST.

As you might imagine, I imagine.
But I'll let those currently on the road chime in with the details.

I can tell you that now is not really the best time to be entering the
Big truck truckin' industry. There are better companies who have shelved their
training programs in favor of hiring experienced drivers.
But the bottom-feeders still seem to be goin' strong. Which, isn't
necessarily IN your favor. They chew y'all up, and spit y'all out.
It's what they do, and they seem to do it best.
Their attitude seems to be, that there are PLENTY more out there,
desperate enough to take the raw deal they offer, ----
although they'll sugar-coat the description of what they have to offer.
If it SOUNDS too good to be true, it probably is.
Truth is not what they specialize in.
It's movin' freight as CHEAPLY as possible --- usually at y'all's expense.
Can YOU afford to do that?
If so, there are many willing to oblige you.

    Desiredname Thanks this.

Do I still? No, lol but they want me back. I guess that is a good thing.

Do I still answer the phone when it rings. Absolutely! I have run a business since 1985 (Farm tractor work). The peace of mind hauling a 45,000 pound load down the road is quite relaxing.

I miss being out there, yet finding the right situation with only 4 months exp is a challenge

Ah thats the answer I've been looking for, Bad econcomy bottom feeders will try to get in... My goal seems to try make 550/wk within those weeks/months of training but seems like every other thread people bringing home 25 dollar checks, 300... I was thinking go now, make some bucks for maybe the holiday shipping hours but still researching these forums and reviews..

    Love this site so far

The bottom-feeder companies have been around awhile, and not just in this less than stellar economy.
Unfortunately, the bottom-feeder companies are hurting for loads to keep their wheels turnin'.
They're losing their customer base, as industries ship less and less, or just flat go under, or move their operations out of this Country.
That seems to be resulting in drivers sitting for days at a time waiting for another load. And that seems to be happening on a regular basis, where it wasn't as common just a few months ago.
If the wheels aren't turnin', the drivers aren't earnin'.

Even the better truckin' companies are noticing a decline in freight,
and many believe it'll only get worse before it gets better.

It's one thing to not make much money while in training, but consider how expensive it is for even an experienced Big truck truck driver to live while on the road, --- then consider how a newBee is going to fare until, and if, they learn the ins and outs of saving money on the road.
Truck stops aren't cheap to eat at, and knowing where to get off the big road to purchase less expensive food can be a real challenge for a newBee.
Just two truck stop meals a day can easily cost $20.
As a trainee, how much will you be paid for sitting for three days a week, or more?
    Eating HEALTHY, is another story.
    Chips and sardines?

Bills at home to be paid?
    Maybe there'll be enough money.
But I fear there'll be too much month left at the end of the money.
    Bummers!

Starting out in the truckin' industry during the BEST of times is a challenge with all there is to learn and know.
    Now-a-daze, it's even worse.

Another question, do most companies now from schools allow you to install Sat radio in there company trucks? Most of 48 states with country radio stations might convince me to hurt myself :D

What should be noted here.... CRE is a "TEAM" company. If you drive solo, they will lose interest in you.:biggrin_25518:
