It seems that I have noticed a lot of truck fires , I think I read that tires can blow and rub together and make a fire but is there another common reason and do most drivers get out of the truck alive ?

I have also, dennisroc. Many drivers have too. I've done a little research on it and there is some speculation as to the cause....with no definitive conclusion. Many of the fires are not caused by accidents involving other vehicles. I have also noticed an increase in rollover accidents. There is one particular make of truck that has had more problems with in cab fires. That is what happened in the tunnel in West Virginia, no other vehicle involved. I will try to get some of this research together next week. BTW, it isn't Kenworth.

I have been going back looking for the info on Florida truck stops.....and haven't found it so far. I believe it was Wednesday when I saw the last post about it. Wildwood and Fort Myers were two. It was that TransAm sent you a standard message anytime you had a load going to Florida.....about protecting the load. I don't know if they still do that or not.

Well the whole 3 driver swap didn't work out, I am shocked. On my way to Atlanta. In Cartersville,Ga. Doing an 8-2 split so I can deliver on time.

Dennisroc there is crime everywhere. If you keep your eyes open you will be all right. We are easy targets cause we are not around long and usually do not know area so well. If you stick to truck stops and not walk(when you can help it) between trailers you will be all right. Most people today do not have a sense of awareness or maybe growing up in Ny when it was crackhead city made me different but I do not think so. You can have a crime committed against you in your own home.

Time to sleep a few hour so I can get this load to first stop on time. only good news is somehow I gained 30 extra miles. I won't complain. Check back in later when they unload first stop.

    Be safe out there

So does that mean, I'm assuming, you will not be going to FL/or getting to see your parents now? So sorry, jaso. Turns out George is making a swap in Nashville for a load going to Arcadia, FL that is supposed to happen(the swap) tonight. Wonder if it could be the load you were to have gotten?

Is George already in Nashville, jungHo? I think there is a big backup on the interstate there that has held everyone up.

While it is true that truck drivers are normally a high value easy mark for robberies, it happens everywhere including Hood's recently, Florida has always been particularly bad. Maybe because they draw folks of all kinds during tourist season so it might be that not only is the driver not in an area for very long, but neither is the criminal. There were 4 robberies last week at one truck stop.
Six years ago, my phone rang in the middle of the night, I answered and could hear men talking, but no one talked to me. I look at the caller id and it is my brother's number. I thought his phone butt-dialed me. I hang up, five minutes later it rings again, same thing. I listen and I think my brother is watching a movie and laying on his phone....I couldn't understand what all was being said. The third time it happened, I heard "Give me the phone unless you want to die". My brother had taken one of his trucks to do a delivery his self, I knew he was in Florida but didn't know exactly where. He was being robbed, I called his phone company to trace his phone location and of course got no where doing that. Called the local police chief at home and after over an hour he was able to have the phone's location traced and notified the local police......They got there and my brother was ok but everything was taken. Granted he wasn't parked at a truck stop.....but it took hours to find him and get him help. I guess he was lucky they didn't take the truck but they were looking for things to turn fast.

    MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -
Officials say Interstate 40 has been shut down, Saturday afternoon, as crews respond to an injury accident involving an overturned semi.
According to police, all three lanes of westbound I-40 near Air Depot in Midwest City are blocked due to an overturned semi.
Police say they are diverting people off the interstate, and drivers have been asked to avoid the area completely, as it is already backed up and will only get worse.
Officials say one person with minor injuries was treated.
The cause of the accident and the identity of the driver have not been released.
