He lived near the Elizabethan Gardens and The Lost Colony, didn't he? I've heard he wasn't too nice also. Seems he had a problem wuth alcohol? Speaking of The Lost Colony, he played a role in that early on too. He was an actor in it, I believe. Ever see their production, CY? It's a good show!

When I was a kid, my family and I went there. Guess we were early and left the doors open to the car a bit, because a squirrel got in the car! I don't remember who got it out or how, but that was definitely a memorable occasion. My brothers & I loved climbing the sand dunes at Jockeys Ridge too. I have a lot of fond memories of the Outer Banks. Camping, going on day trips sometimes, fishing, etc. Coquina Beach was a favorite spot too.

The Lost Colony was one of them things you were only allowed to do as a tourist
or you had to wait until relatives showed up to entertain
I remember before the bridges were all done in early 60's and there was a ferry everywhere
including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
when my parents first started going to OBX after Jockeys Ridge there wasnt any houses until the Catholic church and the KFC
    gawd I'm old

Young as you feel. I was thinking same about myself. Means we have more interesting memories cause things were neater back then! :biggrin_25519: OBX has nearly maxxed out with cottages, hotels, restaurants, etc. It is different than when I was a kid, but is still a better beach area than Virginia Beach! I don't remember a ferry to OBX. Loved taking one to Ocracoke, though, course it's still there.
