HtQ, he is there now, has been there almost an hour. He ran into high traffic at the TA truck stop in downtown Nashville due to a football game across the street from it. George texted dispatch for a different swap stop, that besides the traffic jam, it was a seedy location. He is just across the state line at Oak Grove, Ky at a Pilot. He says it's the best Pilot he's stayed at since Temple, GA.

Amazing, Panhandle! My daughters and a couple of granddaughters love it! They are loopy over it to the extent they're going to have a party and dress as characters from Dr. Who!

The Flying J in Oak Grove, xt 86 maybe, is THE best peelot/hook I have ever been to. They have the cleanest store, friendliest people, and do the best job of cleaning showers, of almost any truck stop I've been to.

Its prob better that you didn't get the swap from my stand point as I would really like to see one of the trucks.. Sucks you can't go and see your parents, Arcadia is 15 away from port Charlotte and about 10 from the pilot. Currently at river ranch near Frostproof and not getting back to town till about 1 at the earliest and then it is cleaning the quads from the weekend. Heck I will prob see a TA truck passing by the house depending on delivery and next pick up.

As far as safety goes at the pilot in punts gorda there are lots of sheriff's deputies in the area as the sheriff's department is right down the road and it is in a decent area. Have not heard anything happening down there lately but then again a robbery of a trucker doesn't exactly make front page news.

The California South Coast Air Quality Management District is installing an “eHighway” near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The eHighway, which is to be constructed by Siemens, will use a trolley-like system to provide electric power to commercial trucks for a one-mile stretch. It will be in operation as a demonstration for one year.
SCAQMD expects the eHighway to be operational next July. As many as four trucks will run on the highway during the demonstration period. Each will be equipped by Seimens with conductors that can connect to the electric power system, known as a catenary, at any speed. The trucks will be able to operate when not connected to the catenary via traditional battery, natural gas or diesel engines.
The eHighway is expected to provide an environmentally friendly solution for fueling a portion of the heavy truck traffic that operates in the area due to the busy sea ports.
“As the first and second busiest container ports in the U.S., Long Beach and Los Angeles can benefit tremendously from the eHighway system, significantly reducing emissions from commercial trucks that normally contribute to much of the air pollution in this region,” says Matthias Schelein, president of Siemens Mobility and Logistics division.
During the year-long demonstration, SCAQMD will collect data to evaluate the technology’s effects on the environment and the trucking industry. Officials hope to be able to expand the eHighway in the future.

to be honest, it happens everywhere and at any given time. I've been out here only 3 years and been to some shady places and havent any trouble. (knocking on wood) just have to be mindful of your surroundings at all time and dont go flashing cash or jewelry and stuff. make sure you lock your truck.
can't be worried about it all the time or you wont be able to do the job and you won't relax and enjoy yourself. However you do need to be alert, because well you never know.

I personally try to avoid the urban area truckstops and will park in the burbs. I honestly feel safer at a truckstop then in a darkened wal mart parking lot.
