Panhandle, sorry about the driver from your company. That's so sad. I'll keep his family in my prayers.

What CY said about drivers with guns sound logical. Do any of you recall about a week and a half ago, maybe, a truck driver shot another trucker because he cut him off? Things like that would be more frequent. Still, people with violent tendencies seem to find a way to get away with carrying guns whether legally or illegally.

Finally getting loaded after 8 hours. Will put in for detention, four hours as TA pays after four hours. These guys are hopelessly slammed. My DM is skirting the issue of swap location. I will text my night DM. Maybe she will help.me out. Its in the name of safety for Georgie's sake. Atlanta in the middle of the night. I think not.

george the petro is safe enough with security running around
and only a couple exits from the pilot so no out of route miles for either driver
there will be no parking at the pilot anyway
swapping in the fuel island tends to upset other drivers
ask the dm to give the other driver your cell phone number
and ask him to call you
they wont give you his number without his permission

Still broke down. Have to wait on a part, should be rolling again tomorrow around noon. Preplan is gone, so no idea where I might roll to. I am not sure how it works for lease drivers but I will give credit to TransAm, they do pay for a hotel for a company driver without a problem.

Dennis, I have thought about bring my girl with me while on the road and I feel comfortable about it. We have a wide variety of shippers and receivers but a large percentage are larger ones with secure lots, etc. At truck stops just use good common sense and basic security practices. Korea is safe but I would feel more risk traveling around the Philippines with my "wife" than I would to have her traveling in a truck with me in the USA.

I will not blame truck drivers who are victims of crimes but I do wonder if some (for sure not all) get involved with the wrong element at truck stops, lot lizards, dodgy scams, gambling, etc and it leads to more problems. Some areas are just bad (yes, I am looking at you Detroit and Memphis), you can research, manage your clock to get in to make your deliveries/pick up and get out.

I would think the biggest issue with bringing your wife is just showers and bathroom breaks. The road is tough for that part but can be overcome if you set your mind to it. I have seen drivers out and about with what appear to me to be their Filipina wife.

my wife has always been amazed at how nice the showers are at most of the truck stops we have gone to
bathroom breaks are another story :biggrin_25513: she isnt much of a camper type
camping to her is a motel without room service
so leaning on a drive tire on side of I80 is out :biggrin_25524:

^Yeah, plenty of showers are fine enough, was thinking more along the line of finding two available without long waiting times. I was thinking if I ran with my "wife" in the truck, it would be best to start early and break early, as much as is practical, that time of the evening is when showers are most in demand.

For security, I would think if your lady needs to use the facilities in the middle of the night, you will need to get up also and escort her, etc. Use basic security policies like that and I think it would be fine.

when available we used the reserved parking at the Ta's best lit part of any truckstop
and since i never sleep more then 5 hours her off wandering around by herself wasnt a problem
parking at a hole in the wall without 24 hour access was divorce material

I found as long as I dont get stuck at Loves showers are pretty quick
the 2 hour wait time at Polk city comes to mind

passport220, dennisroc and gntorres61 Thank this.

Never! My DM is a saint. :) Picked up in Ft Worth, drop in Odessa tomorrow then head to Cactus for a Thursday morning pickup on a Florida run!

I did, however, briefly entertain the notion of sleep driving except there's no way I could have backed the truck up in my sleep!
