Just wanted to let you guys know to make sure you inspect trailer number 124403 if you get it. Just passed by it and trailer ABS light is on. Question is if the TA driver is even aware of it.

I believe she is also, passport. I also think that driver managers are caught in the middle of this type of situation. A successful DM has successful drivers with a low rate of lost utilization on the part of the truck and the driver. I have always felt that a minimum daily pay would eliminate the anger on the part of the driver and the squeeze of a DM caught between management and her drivers. Most importantly it is the fair and just thing to do. The driver is out there away from home and responsible for company equipment......you are never off duty when you are on the road, it is 24/7.
Good jokes, passport!
Good! I worried about it when I saw where you were. There is so much tension in Missouri right now among people of all races forming opinions and taking sides. I think that this is primed to spread around the country....and large groups in any area would be an open forum for agitation.
Yes, it does vary by DM and yours has always been as fair as possible. I know of a couple of times that she went up a notch on the chain of command in order to get pay approved for her drivers.passport220, dennisroc and jungHo Thank this. -
SRQGhost, I live near Springfield, MO. For many years Prime had a horrible reputation for the way their drivers were treated but in recent years they have made some changes for the better. Most of what I hear now is more balanced on the good side and their pay seems to be quite reasonable.

Words of wisdom, HTQ. I agree that DM should be able to somehow minimalize wait times for swaps. Paying a set wage per day would be nice to offset that. I can see the frustrations drivers have with such long waits. Won't elaborate on every comment you made to passport, but you are right. Hopefully some solution to such issues are in the making "someday."
dennisroc Thanks this. -
Thanks HTQ, If I do go that route it would be Prime, just looked up the requirments for stevens and not to sure I like the 4-1 student to instuctor ratio as Prime is 1 on 1. The other thing is that if I do it this way I will be put straight to the test in winter driving with a instuctor in the vehicle.HometimeQueen and dennisroc Thank this.

If your going to pay for your training, look for a college or tech school that offers it. It will be cheaper and most likely better.
Lots of companies out here will hire a felon, if theft is not involved, or the felony is old enough. I am a felon and do not consider myself a 2nd class citizen, or whatever word you used.HometimeQueen and wulfman75 Thank this. -
The word I used was "ex-felon", indicating it was something of the past. I just read my own post, any other word you have in mind ... came out of your imagination. You may not view your felony record as putting you in a class of less desirable job applicants, many trucking companies do.
Some companies will hire an ex-felon, many will not. I wish more would, driving is a good productive job, if someone wants to work and produce for their family and society, it will cure many ills. No one wins in our "justice" system. However, since not all companies will hire an ex-felon, it does create pressure for that ex-felon employee to accept policies, such as sitting long periods, unpaid, that I will not.
I agree about looking at a college or tech school. They have a system of standards and use a criteria to train that CDL mills likely do not have.Last edited: Aug 19, 2014

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an ex felon, unless you can get a full pardon. And also, supposedly, once our debt is paid, "society" will forgive us. For the most part, that ain't happening. Guess that's one of the reasons I have a thin skin about it. I was one of the lucky ones tho, and my job kept me. Trucking companies an be a decent paying job for felons not as lucky as me.
Your problem, is the same one that can be found at many large companies. Contracts. They agree to have a certain amount of people in an area, for Jic. Sucks, I know. Been there. That's why smaller companies an be so much better. They don't have time for that and, they also will not normally go back to places that do long load and unload times.passport220 Thanks this. -
