Most of you know that I knew a young man that died last fall serving his country. I don't know if I can get this to post or not ....but this is a message that he sent last year on September 11 ....His widow re-posted it today.

Yeah I remember poor Reginald Denny getting kicked and beaten in the LA riots. Left an indelible footprint in my mind. Ad yet, still got into trucking. Even if there wasn't this Ferguson mess, I wouldn't stay in STL or most metros. Though I did stay at a TA in Baltimore few weeks ago because of a swap. Not too bad. Charm city, well I am an Orioles fan.
jaso36 Thanks this. -
The most dangerous truck stop I stayed in was Gary, Indiana. It was so bad the Gary Police provided truck stop security and they wrote tickets. OH, how they wrote tickets. And the one next door had armed security guards with Gary PD radios. He told me they used to have 5-10 assaults per week and 2-3 deaths wasn't unusual.
You know I locked the truck and kept the tire thumper handy that night.
And I stopped watching Big Rig Bounty Hunter. Seeing all those stolen trucks and beat up drivers...not much fun.jaso36 Thanks this. -
Good luck on you stl drop, jaso. I hope all goes well and you can quickly get out of there uneventfully.
I was working at Norfolk International Airport as a Starter for the airport shuttle (like a cab) service in 2011. I wasn't at work 9-11 when the attack on the twin towers happened, but the airport the next several days was like a ghost town. Flights were canceled, naturally, so we basically had no business for a while, until flights were again running. It was quite freaky! -
Made it to my delivery. They are unloading me right now. George your right it is a little bit tight here but I was here first so that makes it much easier. Should almost be done here.
I will stay in STL but not until things calm down. Only place I ever felt uneasy was Chicago at Freezing pros. It was not a nice section and gunshots just before dusk. I will stay just about anywhere else. I do bypass Gary because when I first got into this side of the industry it was the #1 place for stolen trucks and trailers. Don't care so much about the freight but would be very upset if my stuff was stolen. Freight is covered by insurance. So I usually go to Lake Station but have stayed in Gary
Thanks to all who posted about 9/11. I know a lot of people still dying to this day. One of my friends has had over 10 surgeries and is dying right in front of his children. His lungs got so messed up. Sad day
Be safe out therepassport220, jungHo, gntorres61 and 2 others Thank this. -

I stayed at the TA in Gary overnight, for a swap just last week. Still as scuzzy as ever. I wrote in an old post, advising newbies to request swaps that are scheduled for Gary to be moved to Lake Station. I don't know why but I did not bother following my own advice. Luckily, got through it without incident.
I flew out of LAX on 9/11, 2002. A lot of news reports and speculation that some type of anniversary attacks would go down that day. I picked that day to fly to show some type of resistance, to stand up to the threat or something. A show to who, I don't know. It was uneventful. Airport was like a ghost town, 100 security agents to every passenger. The day is not forgotten, sorry to hear about your friend Jaso.
I got turned around from my load going to Texas. Had to drive 180 miles in the opposite direction to pick up a swap that was already late for delivery when I got it. Making two late deliveries this morning. To my pleasant surprise, it is going very smooth. First stop came of off record time, they are starting to unload the second stop now.HometimeQueen, jaso36, gntorres61 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Take care of yourself, wulfman, the same virus that has made so many children sick in the midwest is also affecting adults, although not as severe. I hope you feel better soon!
I haven't heard of anymore shootings on I 70 .....but I haven't seen any reports saying that they have caught the people responsible either.
I would add West Memphis to the list of dangerous places to take a 10. From what I have heard there have been two drivers shot at the truck stops there within this last month.
Today I am hearing that they have portables set up at the rest areas on I 40 in Tennessee..... and in Maine.
jungHo, I hope you have a wonderful day today. Happy Birthday!
Today is also Number Two Daughter's birthday..... they grow up way too fast! She is busy downloading new music to her ipod. Her ferret, Albert, has been on a hunger strike .....because I didn't buy him the food he likes. The stuff the little weasel normally eats is $6 a pound! I found another brand with the same ingredients and nutritional value for a lot less than that ....but it evidently doesn't have the same flavor. I don't know who is going to cave in first, me or Albert!
gntorres61, jaso36 and jungHo Thank this.
