Aquarius, I didnt do the backing test. I was already considered "experienced" with just six weeks solo with Abilene. If I had taken it, I probably wouldn't be working here. I have literally been teaching myself to back and have learned by doing with limited training and some help from strangers guiding and spotting me in the tight places. Today, did it on my own. A work in progress I am, and if I don't hit anything, I get to keep practicing.
I will admit here that in the early going, I hit a few dropped trailers at receivers one with Abilene, and one here at Trans Am. My setup was poor and I wasn't watching my mirrors like I should have been. If you pay close attention to your mirrors, THEY WILL SAVE YOU EVERYTIME. GO SLOW, WATCH YOUR MIRRORS, GET OUT AND LOOK. GOAL. I also had a second incident, where I pulled out of a tight receivers dock, turned to avoid a guard shack and WAS NOT WATCHING MY MIRRORS, my trailer caught the trucks driver side front fender in the dock next to me. The damage was minor because I was going at idle speed. (Johnboy, sorry I kept this from you). That was back in my first week with TRANS AM. Since then, I have been clean.
This is as much a testimony to Trans Am and their patience with me. This after they knew about the multiple incidences I had in six weeks of solo with Abilene. All minor, plus my fuel nozzle incident at the terminal at Abilene when I left the nozzle in the tank and drove off. I write this to help you fellow newbies out there. All my incidences were idle speed on private property, never in traffic on the streets and highways. Hope this helps Aquarius. I know I am lucky to still be in the industry, BUT I AM GETTING IT RIGHT!! THANKS FOR STICKING WITH ME AND BY ME, TRANS AM!! There I have bared my soul to you, my friends out there.jungHo, HometimeQueen, jaso36 and 5 others Thank this. -
Heads up for anybody coming EB outta Barstow or heading WB on I-40

It takes a big man to make that admission in a public forum. To my way of thinking, you've analyzed yourself pretty well...and honestly, too. The key to keeping your CDL and your psyche clear is to recognize problems before they become incidents, as you call them. You do well using your mirrors. Never be afraid to quit this try, go around, and do it again. Practice where you can and often.
You already have a good attitude. Your performance will improve. Ask for help from your company if you need it; sounds like they've already invested in you.passport220, gntorres61 and jungHo Thank this. -
they are really just looking for CARB compliance
they wave the newer trucks thru usually if all the right stickers are in place
a lot of guys have not updated reefers so states nose gets out of joint
of course the CA laws only apply to out of state trucks
the 30 year old school buses blowing smoke poor ore pollution then a carb compliant truck every day
and HTQ staging area is proper term
we are not a bunch of cattle in the holding pen..................geez louiseHometimeQueen Thanks this. -
McDonalds announced a second national Free Coffee Event, an opportunity for even more coffee lovers to enjoy a freshly brewed, rich and smooth tasting McCafé coffee.
From Sept. 16 through 29, guests can get a free small McCafé coffee during breakfast hours at participating McDonalds restaurants across the country. This event builds on McDonalds first-ever Free Coffee Event launched in March, when the company gave away millions of cups of free coffee during the two-week period.gntorres61 and dennisroc Thank this. -
I am, thank you for asking. I turned in the recovery truck that had regen problems, now my regular truck is having the same. It may not be too major, maybe just a case of having the regen run while hooked up to the service laptop, so if I can find a KW dealer that is not to busy, I think maybe it can be taken care of in half a day.
I have some lag time coming up, early in the week. Make my delivery on my final stop on in Boston on Monday, my preplan says my next pick up is only 28 miles away but not until Tuesday. Maybe I can take the truck in at that time. Worried that a KW dealer in a major metro area like Boston will be too busy tho.HometimeQueen and gntorres61 Thank this. -
If I remember correctly LA just got a fine from the state for not complying with those standards though.
